General Discussion Area / Thankyou Auto Addict
« on: 29 March 2007, 23:33:51 »
Rather belated, I would like to thank Auto Addict for his time and help yesterday.

He picked me up from a train station somehere in Birmingham, drove me to Wolverhampton, then spent the rest of the day helping me fix up the project car enough to get it back to Brackley.

Cheers :y

No worries Bo.......any excuse for a chat!! ;) ::).........and I reckon you deserve to be cheered up a bit with your recent bad luck!!
I think he's done plenty of cheering himself up by drowning his sorrows in Irish's favourite stout.... ::)

Jaime, I think we need to have a chat about anger management some time....  ;D

Laserjet 4000 is not a bad old printer, little slow maybe, but reliable generally.

Personally I blame the software developers!  ;)
My boss wanted to send me on some kind of Anger workshop. Told him I had no trouble getting angry, no course required.... :P

well, thats bloody HP for you ;)
Scumbags ;)

I stuck my fist through a Laserjet 4000 the other day.  I don't ask much from a printer, just that it prints  ::)

Anyone throwing out a Laserjet 4000, can they keep the toner cover and the fold down manual feed tray for me  :-[

You are welcome to drive the MV6 to see if the issue is with your car, or Omegas in general...
Thanks again for the offer.  The shocks are definitely 'my car', hopefully they will soften up but maybe someone else needs to take it down a rough road several times b/c my back isn't liking it at all.

The tranny is almost certainly the software.  The update seems ever so slightly worse in the behaviour that annoys me, but not really different.  I think it is more that the frustration has built up.  If you drive the car hard then the tranny is fine.  However, I don't want to drive like that all the time, and it is especially annoying when following traffic at the standard 45-50 in a 60 zone.
Before the s/w update, I used to lock in 3rd.... ...don't now though.

Its a psychological thing I'm afraid Theo. Once you get it into your head that you just dont like a car anymore, its real hard to change that feeling. I've been there. I had a saab 9000 that I suddenly hated (because bits were going wrong) I sold it for a song and then regretted it for ages. Think on it before you let it go for nothing, you wont get much for the money you sell the omega for.
Yeah, that's why I'm willing to get rid of it cheap when the time comes, even fixing it is cheaper than replacing it.  I can't do anything else until this summer, but the shocks and the tranny are really aggravating me.  The rest of the car is really really good, but I really don't like driving the car now.

Hopefully late summer I will be able to buy something else.  Without being able to improve the tranny and get more headroom, I'll never be completely happy with the Omega.  The rest of it is just a matter of a reasonable amount of money, which might be able to be justified except for those issues.
You are welcome to drive the MV6 to see if the issue is with your car, or Omegas in general...

I don't want anyone to take sides mate, I would hope we're all above that. I'm not going to do any personal name calling etc, I'm just very politely saying I feel let down by this occasion, and after some consideration, felt it would be good to share it with the community.

I'm just blowing a few gaskets, because I wasted my day and half a tank of optimax  ;)
You could have wasted a day over here, I'm sure I can find something to do.... ;)

if the member did not feel confident in letting you work on his car (for whatever reason), then I guess that is his choice and should also be respected.  It may be an expensive car, his pride and joy etc etc.

I totally agree with this point,

BUT

It would have been nice to have not travelled 200 miles to find this out... if it were the case, I should have been told first, before we agreed I was going down. To decide he doesn't want me working on his car because "I look like a kid" is upsetting, and telling me that after putting in so much effort is hurtful and should NOT be respected!!

I don't want to contact anyone, I don't want to take it any further.. but I will definately learn from it, and be more selective about who I help out in future.

 :'(
I don't really understand whats happened, and until I understand what has, I am reluctant to take 'sides'.

However, from the little I know, it seems the member's actions were unacceptable.  So you're young? So what? I'm jealous of your age.  If I may get personal for a moment, your head is too old for such a young man, so age isn't relevent anyway. And your experience is again enviable.

I bet you I could be as compentent if not more so than technicians that are recruited into dealerships.
and older ;D  (couldn't resist, sorry)

Right, in all seriousness now.

I apologise, I have been away for the site for a couple of days, as had M_DTM, and I kept AA away yesterday.  That did leave poor LB66 dealing with everything, and he is busy with work anyway. And busy answering stupid calls from me ::).  So if there was an issue that Admins should have dealt with, it is my fault, and I personally apologise to you.

I am unaware of the sitution, either regarding the member, or why postcount was deducted.  No sure if 2 are really linked anyway, other than a bit of fun.  If you find the postcount upsetting, then I apologise on behalf of the team if it was done for fun.  Not that we'll stop doing it though :p

This site is built on the foundations of a friendly forum, where nobody gets neglected through being inexperienced (don't think for 1s I am referring to you!), or not being in the 'in crowd'

So, whenever personal conflicts like this happen, I take it as a personal failure on my part. And I don't like to fail  >:(

Nobody knows how to do every job on a car, even Mr DTM himself.  I have seen Mr DTM make mistakes, as we all do.  However, I would consider him to be one of the best Omega specialists in the country still.  Whilst, James, I doubt you are as competent as M_DTM in most areas, I personally think you are more competent than most Vx trained techs.  I would have no hesitation in letting you work on my car, as you well know.

All that said, and remember I do not know the situation, or the member involved, I guess if the member did not feel confident in letting you work on his car (for whatever reason), then I guess that is his choice and should also be respected.  It may be an expensive car, his pride and joy etc etc.  However, I hope he appreciated you time, effort, and expense none the less.

If either party want to contact me, or one of the other Admins instead, please feel free to do so.

my local ats match internet prices :)

I didn't mention t'internet, just asked how much fitted. I can't now remember the individual price (£130? :-/ ), but by buying 4 the price came done to £110 each.
I was justing pointing out that by the time you manage get your mytre/blackcircle/etc tyres fitted & balanced it might be worth a quote from a local tyre company.
etyres fit mobile inc in price, blackcircles use local tyre places ;)
