Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Dead  Locking not working
« on: 19 November 2007, 18:26:15 »
Hi all, here's one that stumped me for a while, I have a 2001 51 plate 2.6CD

I had an intermittent fault with my central locking, the car would lock but not deadlock on the second press of the keyfob.

Now if I'm right (and I might not be!) it turned out that the pinswitch on the drivers side that operates the interior lights was dirty, and if the light had not operated when the door opened then the car's central locking didn't think you'd left so wouldn't deadlock!

I took the swich out disconnected the spade and applied a healthy dose of WD40 to it and havn't suffered at all since, is this a well known issue?

Cheers all

Omega General Help / Re: Vibration at speed on 2.5 v6 CDX
« on: 30 November 2007, 22:53:50 »
Hi, I hate to throw dirt at tyre companies BUT I helped a friend change his font discs and pads on his VX looney Astra... (all turbo n tupperware) Anyway I commented on the "poor" state of his tyres.... from he said "My Tyres.com" they were only 6 weeks old, the side walls were cracked and the tread was delaminating (if there is such a thing), as in coming away from the casing, he raised a complaint and they changed them without hesitation! Normaly as a customer I would say great, BUT I had a problem with a Goodyear a few years ago and my experience is that the retailers and manufacturers wriggle like rabbid eels whe you have a problem with a tyre. So to the point, are these MyTyre.com guys selling boots that are sub standard or "seconds" hence the keen price???

Newbie Welcome Area / Greetings
« on: 18 November 2007, 17:04:03 »
Hi all, I just thought it might be about time to join one of these here forums, my Omega's a 2001 on a 51 plate, it's a 2.6 in Nocturno Blue, CD spec, I bought it at 10 months old form a Vauxhall Main Dealers.

I'ts done me proud, it tows my caravan like a dream and has delivered 120,000 + miles with only the slightest of genuine problems ( the gear selector / programme thingy died.... but I did park it in a big puddle so I musn't grumble)

However other problems that I have had seem to have been CAUSED by main dealers, let me tell you a storey or two.....

At 40,000 miles I had my servicing done in installments..... " we can't do your cam belt sir.... they sent the wrong one" THEY ffs, THEY !...... this is a mian dealer we're on about...... thier answer..... ooo just pop it back sir and we'll do it next week.......

At 60,000 miles at the same dealership I had to fight to get them to change my gearbox oil (due every 60k so says the book), they had to ring technical at vauxhall before they believed me..... and ooo yeah it took 3 attempts cos THEY sent the wrong bits.... I hope you're all wondering who THEY are as much as I am!!!

At 80,000 miles the cam belt and the spark plugs are due to be replaced, well I thought I might try a different dealership...... It would appear I would fair no better...... at around the 100,000 miles in a lovely village in Dorset my beloved Omega devolped a missfire and the dash lit up with the 'please don't drive me anymore' light...... so I called for a recovery truck and had my trusty steed delivered to where I bought it from.
Now that was a Sunday, they rang me on Tuesday to ask if it would be a problem for me if they looked at my car on Thursday, instead of the Wednesdeay that they had promised. Needless to say I got the steed recovered to a nice independant garage, they not only looked at it same day.... but fixed it same day and Nigel showed me why it had put the dreaded don't drive me light on..... I had 3 spark plugs that were nearly new and 3 that had worn to the point of not being able to spark anymore, or at least not without a 1.21 jiggawatts jolt from a flux capacitor (bet you can't guess what side the worn out ones are from). Has anyone else suffered this fraudulent approach to servicing? It wouldn't be so bad if it was just the plugs that they ripped me off for, it cost me a coil pack too! I did approach the main dealer with this evidence..... I asked them to comment, Here's the reply, "we don't do that sort of thing sir, I'll look into it and ring you back" THEY never did!

Now here we are at 129,000 miles and an issue with the crank position sensor, I honestly don't have a beef with that at all. It's not a major problem, I found the answer on here in ten minutes, but what does concern me is the other errors that were present in the onboard computer, one of wich was the low fuel pressure warning.
Now I have the invoices that say THEY changed the fuel filters many times, but it would appear that THEY did not, the result was that I shelled out yet another £500 plus VAT for the nice men at the really nice independant garage to put a new fuel pump and crank position sensor on the trusty stead.

Should I name names? I have the invoices and the removed parts! should I start a one man crusade to rid us all of Main Dealer Servicing?

BTW the Nice garage is in Kings Norton, Birmingham, it's called Kings Norton Garage, the guy I deal with is called Nigel, he's not pretty nor is his garage, they don't do mates rates or loan cars but they do carry out the work that's on the invoice, and THEY delivered my car to me at 6:30 in the PM

Wow that was some tirade for a debut, but on a sensible note, thanks for the info that pointed me to the crank position sensor, I look forward to being an active member on this great forum!

Cheers all

Am I right in saying that if the cambelt and tensioner were fitted by a Vx Dealership and it's a genuine article and it go's pop at less that the recommended interval I would have grounds for a complaint?

Or is that just a can of worms that I shouldn't open?

Hi, here is a paste of a reply to a pm asking the same thing! "the Signum is a rapid little bestie, it torque steers like a pig and it's noisier than the Miggy, theres way too much cheap plastic and some bits have fallen off in the interior, it's a harder ride but it does have cruise so the journey requires a little less effort, the seat on the drivers side is never where I left it as regards how high I set it.. The stereo shuts down with a massive pop when it gets hot then restarts in the quiet mode...... the Miggy is a 2.6 V6 Ecotec and returns about 27 to 31Mpg the Signum is the 3.2 V6 Ecotec and has returned 36Mpg (but I was driving like a priest) typicaly it returns 29 to 33Mpg. ..... other than that it's a lovely car. I only bought the Signum because it was soooooo cheap! If you live near Bromsgrove or Maldon in Essex (I work down there) feel free to come take a look and maybe a test drive. Does that answer all your questions?

OOOOOO yeah the service intervals are way better for the cambelt on the Signum 80K woohoo !!!

I'm not going to do too much with the signum as it suites the roads where I'm working at the mo.... but I still reckon the Miggy is much nicer on the motorway....... however the Miggy does need some TLC, New Cam Covers to sort out the oil leak, a cambelt service, rear suspension bushes and the diff seal needs sorting....... other than that it's as good as new lol......
