Post by: omega squared on 22 September 2018, 11:33:24
Just bought a nice one owner green 2.2 petrol estate but its has come with no history with it does anyone know it?
its mid green metallic with beige trim, BF 51 ZRJ. Looks like its been well looked probably has a good history and has been lost during the trade in process.

the MOT history does not inspire
11 passes, 9 fails with BIG Advisory lists
from that, I would think it got checked mechanically once a year and minimum work to get an mot certificate .
BUT ,now you own it , so give it some love  ;)

I think that cars that have successive MOT failures show a lack of basic maintenance, also some of the failures are for cheap and easily checked items such as tyres, lights and wipers etc.  DVSA site tells a great deal about the history, also can,t be doctored like service books. (Can it?)

I read the same history before buying it and concluded that was actually a very good MOT history for an old banger, far from what I would call big advisory fails (you should see some of the advisories we get on much newer cars than this).

Hopefully in time someone will see this and know if its history.

To update this story with a positive outcome.

I managed to get in touch with the previous owner, he'd owned it since new and loved it / looked after it had it serviced every year.

When he traded it in handed over the history to the main dealer (including a receipt from Vauxhall for a brand new engine for £2,500 fitted at 65,000 miles).
It then got sent to the auction and the auction house who lost all of that paperwork (probably threw it in the bin).

Nice to know its been well cared for but frustrating that someone would throw the history away.

I sent it off for its mot and it passed no problem, always a good sign and it drives really well, bit sluggish compared to my previous V6' models.

Only thing I need to sort is get the cambelt changed and fix the annoying clicking noise that sometimes comes from behind the steering wheel makes a loud click like 2 pieces of plastic forcing against each other - any ideas on that?

That's a result  :y

Clicking is the 'clock spring' that connects the steering wheel controls and airbag to the car loom...

Straightforward, if fiddly, to replace.  :y
