Here's the upstart that's (supposed to be) going to Naples in September, but the brakes are driving me nuts!!!!
Note the exquisite peeling laquer and the bohemian use of Senator alloys on the front!!

Pay particular attention to the lack of passenger door paneling, the calibrated speedo and the interestingly arranged switchgear in place of an ignition switch. Will it get to Naples???

Lotus Carlton wheels?

Nope, Azev 'A's. But they are the same dimensions as LC/LO wheels. 265/40/17 on the back and 235/45/17 ont he front.

Y'know I always prefer the estate version of any car. Dunno if it's because I appreciate the practicality aspect, or they actually appeal aesthetically or even if it was because my first car was a Cortina estate and that might've set a precedence, but I'd always go for the performance estate or 'shooting brake' over the saloon.
Lets see............
-Cortina; definitely looks better as an estate, so does the old Granada.
-Omega; again, no contest although the post facelift saloons are quite nice.
-Carlton; absolutely! (Funny though that there's less leg room in the back of RWD Vx estates!!)
-Senator; For those that don't know, there were a few prototype Senator estates that were let into the wild and there are a few replicas too. Based on a Carlton, it looks the DB's!!! 4.0 too!!
-Subaru Imprezza; definitely better looking estate.
-BMW Z3; absolutely stunning 'shooting brake' but the coupe looks like it's got limp wrists.
-Any other BMW.
-Volvo P1800; delicious.
-Reliant Scimitar; (Anyone ever seen the coupe one? Yik!)
I'm sure I can think on some more, but this is enough to be getting on with!!

I love that front grill on the faclift estate !! :)
Nice MV6 front bumper as well, not too sure on the Lotus Alloys, but thats just me.
Did you paint that grill yourself to match the paint work? If so how much was the grill!

Nope, Irmscher. Aftermarket item to match the sills. There should be a rear bumper set up too, but it wasn't on the car when I bought it, and I don't like it, so it stayed the way it is.
not too sure on the Lotus Alloys, but thats just me.
They're not Lotus Carlton/Omega alloys, they're Azev 'A's. They are however the same dimensions/offset as LC/LO alloys. I know what you mean though. There is a short story to go with the reason I bought them. (They were originally intended to go on my Carlton GSI, but when I was looking at them, I discovered that the tyres on my car were all bald!! So I had to buy them there and then just to stay legal. And there they stayed. ::) ). It took a while, but they grew on me. They just contradict the pipe & slippers or sensible family estate image by being a bit 'off the wall' I think that's what I like about them.

I've had estates for the last 20 years or so. Luv the MV6 - I think the next time you're in Hertfordshire you should pop in to Hoddesdon (again!) and have a few beers while we negotiate the sale of it ;D

I did't relaise it came like that from the factory, i have only ever seen irmshcer grills with the black edge or chrome, never body coloured ones. looks very nice. not seen that before

It didn't. It's an aftermarket one that was put on it before I bought it.
The whole grille is black, the blue surround is the bonnet itself.
**Edit** Actually, from having a second look at the pics, I see why you think the surround is body colour. I'm pretty sure it isn't, but you've put the seed of doubt in my mind. I'll have a gander at it when I leave work tonight.

We did joke about her joining the forum(s) I frequent, but TBH, she's not really a petrol head and I think it would all go a bit over her head. She can just about identify the front of the car from the rear so's she's sitting the right way in it and that's about as far as her technical knowledge goes!! And because I only bought it last week, I haven't lifted as much as a screwdriver to it yet, but I did glue a bit of the wheel tub last night that had gotten broken.
Just asking as the site is seeking Lady owners.

I apologise profusely. The surround is in fact body colur. I've never noiticed before. I thought it was all black. DOH!
Bottom line is, I don't know where it came from really. My guess would be the main dealer as it was a demonstrator originally, but it is definitely an after market item.

UUUUmmmmmm! NO!
I fill the tinker at leat twice a week, but I'm fortunate enough to be able to expense the majority of that.
I saw the back of a complete tankfull in three hours flat the other week. That's kind'a painful!!!
I would only change it for a Monaro though. (Remarkably enough, the 5.7 litre LS1 V8 is better on fuel than the 3.2 Omega!! Go figure!!)
