Supposedly picking up a Golf 2.8 4MO later, anyone know if these have cambelts or chains? I thought they were chains, but someone mentioned a cambelt?

General Discussion Area / Logbook, filled out?

A friend of mine selling his car, anyway he was due to sell it after taking a deposit, filled out the logbook (idiot I know), and now his guy has pulled out. Anyway he's filled in the little green slip and the logbook itself, and has another guy supposedly coming to collect tomorrow. This isn't something I've come across before surprisingly, how does he get around that? Tipex, crossing out?

Does anyone know anything about number plate machines or the software on them? I'm looking at buying one, however there's plates that come out like cheap tatty rubbish like this:

And good ones come out like this, a nicer more reflective blue, and better colouring, the GB bit goes right up to the edge of the plates, and they don't look printed:

2. Perforated?

If they are, why was the German/Opel Omega so much better kitted out the the UK model? It seems the German cars have plenty more little appealing touches than we ever got over here?

General Discussion Area / Computer help needed please, Dell Inspiron 1525

My laptop is coming up with this? What does it mean, and I haven't set no passwords? How do I get it off? Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525.

Also when I put in the windows factory boot disc it, it loads, but when I get to the where to load the windows to, I select the hard drive and it says: Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets the criteria for installation? I haven't a clue what any of this means?

I've always been led to believe a Cat D is worth 20% less when repaired than a similarly specced and aged model, and it's what I've always based my valuations on, is this correct? Reading the interweb as you do, brings up various different things about lots of rubbish really, but it puts the doubt in my mind.

Honestly, when I owned this car, from roughly 2003-2008, I was constantly searching the net for Photo's, trying to find one of the car in service, here I am having a little look around the net, bearing in mind I'm pretty sure after the car was bought from a member here, it was scrapped due to an oil cooler failure, and I find one, rather pleasing that I've finally found a picture to say the least (added 2012), although the fact the car was scrapped brings a tear to my eye
