Problem with an ESCORT! any help????
« on: 25 August 2007, 14:28:23 »

Hi all, Its been a while since I was last here but thought someone here may be able to help?

I have recently bought an escort ghia 1994 to ease the millage I'm putting on my omega. When the escort is idleing it stuters like the revs are to low, the rev counter reads about 500 shoudn't it idle at about 1000? if so how do I fix this problem?

when the car runs it runs fine! only when it idles does it stuter?

Any ideas would be excellent!

P.S I have been told by a friend to change the spark plugs, Do you think this will help?

Thank you in advance to all those who reply.

I'm moving this to the 'General Chat' area, as it is not Omega related, sorry.

It's a unit about 3-4" long and bolted on the inlet maifold around the throtle assembily with a wire going into the side of it.  It's held on by 2 bolts disconect the wire plug and take the unit off you clean it by sraying wd40 or simular in to it and giving it a good shake then reconect it all.

im saying this from memory so it may not be 100% but i'll try to get the pics and correct way soon as  i can find my ford tis. hopefully tonight..
Hope this helps in the meantime.

Daren is this Escort the 1.6i Zetec engine ? I have a 1998 version with 1.6 Zetec and these engines are known for their rough running and idle. Mine also used to cut out when pulling away from junctions (not very funny). Apparently I have been told that the zetec engines have very unreliable sensors. Mine turned out to be caused by the temp sending unit!

1000rpm idle is a bit high.....more like 600-700rpm i would think......500 does sound a bit low.....

Have you given it a basic service?.......ie Plug change/oil and filter change/air filter change

Best to try the simple cheap stuff first  :y
