To look at it another way, the longer they live, the longer that they have to carry the burden of what they have witnessed/facilitated/been party too...

If all the staff across the Reich who didn't agree with their roles had made a stand, then their numbers would have been added to the total of those killed. Those who could, ran away, the rest simply focused on their immediate duties as a form of self defense.

There's a 2015 film called Amnesia which explores this idea.

Just to be clear, I am not trying to defend the indefensible. Those were difficult and dangerous times, and whilst we would all like to be able to say that we would have behaved differently in those circumstances, I am not sure that, when faced with it, that we would have...

Well quite. These days even just the very mention of Nazis, Hitler, and the Hollocaust results in an understandable and almost automatic response. But there are some very uncomfortable questions that nobody wants to answer to themselves.

Strength of will or brain power-or both-that kept him going so long? Aged 21 doctors didn't give him long but he managed to hit 76.A brilliant mind has been lost.R.I.P.

Stephen Hawking was amazed to find that there is in fact an afterlife and after St Peter let him through the Pearly Gates and ushered him into the reception area, he was even more amazed to find everyone in stitches as Ken Dodd was holding forth and then Jim Bowen came up and challenged him to a game of 'Round The Clock!'  :)

I'm currently looking at pension options (annuity Vs drawdown etc) and it's a bit strange when you see them trying to figure out when I am going to kick it  :o and whether I will outlive the money  . . . . . Not a "Dead Person" yet
