3.2 V6 Z32SE Engine Running Temp Question.
« on: 22 February 2016, 21:19:39 »

3.2 Z32SE or least I think that's  the correct engine code, anyway the one fitted to the Veccy C 2003.

Anyone know what these should run at when up to temperature, according to Tinternet and a few forums they sit at 80° C, which seems a bit low to me.

Reason I ask is the LPG one I'm currently running does sit at 80, and rarely goes above 85, coincidently I have low cabin heat, barely warm'ish on fall blast, my gut feeling is blocked heater matrix, when up to temp, heater on hot, put fan on full and you can feel the heat slowing drop to almost cold, telling me the fan is cooling the Matrix Rad which probably got initially hot through heat induction transfer rather than hot water flowing through it, pipes to and from in engine bay feel hot to touch as well which kind of also tells probably no air locks..

But, in the back of my mind I also torn towards possible main Thermostat being lazy or open?, undecided, LPG runs sweet and kicks in fairly quickly, 1/3 mile from cold, although it does seem a while before the engine gets up to full temp, assuming the gauge is correct and the temp should be at 80°.

Thermostat check .. from cold start the engine with the heating switched off, and stand with one hand on the large pipe where it leaves the thermostat and goes to the top edge of the radiator.

As the engine warms up you SHOULD feel a sudden surge of heat as the thermostat opens, if you feel a gradual, continuous warming then the thermostat is kapput - stuck open.

Seeemples ...  :)

Double check the LPG coolant circuit is correctly plumbed.

Funny you should say that, first thing I checked, then again, then again the other day, still can't find the Vaporiser, reckon they've hidden it somewhere under a panel.   ;D

Mind you theres not much space under the hood.

Thermostat seems ok on that basis, takes a long time to kick in though.  :-\

Coolent temp sensor,
What you saying Mr B, temp sender is faulty or giving duff info to the gauge?

Would still like confirmation as to what temp these engines should run at, anyone?  ;)

Middle of the gauge is all I could say. As you know, the markings on the gauge don't correlate exactly to the temperature anyway ;)

If it makes any difference, I replaced the stat on my car because it ran a bit cool in winter and the new one is exactly the same ::) The vaporiser does sap a lot of energy/heat :y

The only saving grace with mine was that it had stuck open on a couple of occasions anyway ::)

And I would suspect that either the coolant isn't plumbed to the LPG properly or a HBV fault before blocked matrix unless there is evidence of poor coolant maintenance/rad weld etc :-\

Thanks LD, still not had a chance to check (or find) the Vap yet.  ::)

I know the feeling on the Thermostat change, had one done on a 3.2 Omega a few years back, was totally convinced it was the stat and a new one made sweet FA difference.  :-\

Ive put some Fernox and a couple of Dish Washer tablets in the coolant for a couple of days (will keep an eye on it) with the view to do a complete flush and change next weekend, and see if any improvements before messing with the matrix.  ;)
