Water Leak -Name this part lol
« on: 25 March 2014, 09:31:35 »

Hi, I realised I was loosing a minimal amount of water and it is minimal.. after looking everywhere I noticed  a small drip coming form this part please see the photo.
The leak is where I have added the white line and it appears to be in the area where 3 screws connect one part to another.. maybe its a gasket fix .. What is this part? or any here fixed the same.

Thanks in Advance

That's the pump for running coolant through the heater matrix when engine is off... Simply remove and connect the two pipes together...

To do it properly you can bypass them at the other end of the pipes... Might even be a Vauxhall pipe for that very purpose :y

Hi Taxi, Thanks for your reply..
When you say connect the 2 pipes together do you mean bypass the pump completely.. if so would this not cause problems in the future?
Heater matrix pump -might look on flea bay.

Thanks

Think this is  the same on flea bay - VAUXHALL OMEGA/ VECTRA/ SAAB BOSCH INLINE AUXILIARY 12V ELECTRIC WATER PUMP
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-VECTRA-SAAB-BOSCH-INLINE-AUXILIARY-12V-ELECTRIC-WATER-PUMP-/131110522993

These things can be costly.. considering my pump works I might try dismantling it and fitting some kind of gasket /sealant.

No long term side effects... Put another way, can you remember when you last used the heater with the engine off ::)

Incidentally pump is same as one on radiator :y

It's worth a try if you don't like removing or blanking off components, a smear of Hylomar or similar sealant might do the trick.  :-\

Yes reassuring.. thanks all.

Still if any have one lying around £ ;)  would prefer to add another pump just to keep the car original if you know what I mean.

As above, it's the same pump as the circ pump on the main radiator. I'm willing to bet that Rob has a bag of them somewhere.  :y :y

I got quite excited when my new (to me) 2.5 had one as the 2.2 never did and I do like the function for heat when stopped.

However it never seems to get any power, the pump works when powered up manually, but with engine off and climate in auto there are no volts on the end of the cable.

What does the pump on the radiator do?

This is part of "winter pack", not sure what else was included, at least this. Makes the coolant circulate through heater matrix when car is off and "auto" is pressed from the CC panel. But, as you can imagine, fans and this pump only run for a very limited time until coolant temp drops and heater can not put any more heat to the cabin. My recommendation is to get rid of it, I'm planning to take mine out even it is running and we do have very cold climate here...

The pump on the rad runs in conjunction with the fans to accelerate/assist coolant flow through the radiator in high engine temp situations
