Years and Years and Gentleman Jack, yet more BBC drama with a strong PC slant on LGBT issues. Each to their own for me but the Beeb continually push it in our faces.
I understand your point of view, but are these productions just reflecting the REAL society out there, and the tremendous mix that the human race is? In the past the TV only vaguely touched on 'sensitive' issues, like
Till Death Do Us Part, 1960's and
Eastenders from the 1980's starting to delve deeper into those subjects with some risky, for those days, viewing. I think most of us on here remember all too well the strictly black and white view of things on TV that reflected the strict conformity expected of everyone post war. I therefore grew up never knowing about the diversity of life, as everything was 'hidden' away. Remember even women talking about that, you know, thing (sex!!) was not done old boy!
So the BBC and all other channels are now showing far more productions reflecting what actually exists out there, and it only appears "in your face" because it is such a shock to the older generations to actually see these things on TV. As for
Gentleman Jack which from a woman's point of view is a fantastic, extremely fast paced, romp that reflects the real life character, Anne Lister as recorded in her secret diary of the time; she was a real oddity for the time of course, but not alone, just being one who made herself more public than others of her character. She now would be readily accepted by most open minded, realistic human beings, but then, oh my God, it went way above talking about...........you know, thingy!
My dear late mother, born in 1928, welcomed the new approach on TV that she witnessed, and often said "at last, things are coming out in the open!". She would have loved the Gentleman Jack production as shew, like so many, knew of such things that were hidden away for her generation - like women having any say in life and the man being master of all, and you must never upset him!
No, TV with these productions and of course 'The Soaps' amoungst many are very much 21st century in reflecting the nitty gritty of life
