about a year ago I had a 2001 omega and had a slight accident at 110mph when head gasket went. Removed engine and stripped it to the bare bones.

The engine has been honed, new rings, crankshaft and all the bearings and heads done.

AND the best part its totally been powdercoated candy red. Just waiting on the timing wheels, power steering wheels, alternator wheel, aircon clutch and crankshaft wheel coming back from chromers

any ideas would be great

looks better in the sunlight. cam cover thrown out. yea I know I run the risk of something getting into timing belt and wrecking everything I done. chance I will take for it looking good

I learnt that lesson over twenty years ago when I left the belt cover off because it looked cooler.
Then the fanbelt came off, and made the timingbelt jump about 4 teeth, which I only discovered when I'd walked into town and bought and fitted a new fanbelt.
The AA patrol seemed surprised when I asked to borrow the appropriate sockets and refitted the timingbelt at the side of the road. That is possible with a 2.0l Capri, it will be a disaster with a 4cam V6.

My advice is to find a way of fitting the belt that you can stand to look at. I intend to fit an X30XE to my Standard Flying 12, and will be painting the block and (probably) the gearbox dark blue, as that will be the detail colour on the car. I intend to retain the plastic camcovers and timing belt cover and just clean up all the other aluminium bits.

only other things I could do is cut the holes out so timing sprockets are visible but still protects the belt

that's a idea Perspex covers. wouldn't need to be rounded like the cover just enough to protect the majority of it. good thinking mate

only have coil springs as yet all the rest will be coming back next week,also waiting for the whole back end coming back from powder coaters. so be busy rebuilding

Wasn't the chroming harmful for the condition of spring? Doesn't it loose any of its flexibility?

once springs are chromed they have to be heat treated to remove hydrogen embrittlement. if it isn't done, when spring is compressed for fitting it could shatter or even when driving under load

thanks mate in sunlight it looks nice. that's what happens when you watch American hotrod, that's the inspiration for it. got all the back end back from coaters today. will rebuild tonight and get pics on. should get chrome back tomorrow then onto the next idea for engine. does anyone have a x30xe in their car? got the engine in a jig in the garage and needing angles so I can set up the hoses

once you get it stripped, cleaned and coated. you need to get pics up mate. its a good time to get bores honed and rings and stuff done while its stripped. what colour you thinking of

all I did was strip it and get all the parts protected and gave it to a company sand blast and powder coat. I guys I used would heat the part first then powder coat makes it stick better. A nice candy blue with chrome parts would be lovely

everything from engine back to rear diff all in cost me about 800-900 quid. but that was them cleaning, blasting and powder coating. you just got to think about when its all done and back on the car. that's what keep you going

just bought a new car for the shell. original shell was rotten so just bought a replacement. get it stripped and dipped and painted to match engine

hi are you doing any tune ups to the engine to increase power output, a friend here has built a 3.0 with steel rods new pistons head work and throttle bodies and is getting 360 hp from it with red line nearer 9, beautiful work cant wait to see the finished car, on the shell I'm looking one myself as they are getting bad in places the one in question is at the reinforcing plates on front chassis legs, cheers Eric

yea last shell I had the rust was right through at the chassis plate. but luckily the new one I have is solid at the chassis plate. has rust on the front crossmember but cant find another one anywhere

That's a fantastic looking bit of kit. Regarding the earlier suggestion of transparent cam covers; I have been speaking with a firm that have recently developed some for Lancer Evos and they do intend to extend the offering to other engines. As you might expect, the development costs are high and they need a substantial order for a particular type before they'll put them into production. I wanted to get one for my C20LET, watch this space...!

got car back yesterday not put pics up yet cause really p***ed off

car arrived back all doors in the car all strapped up with boot and bonnet on removing all them from the car noticed that every panel is warped to the point of being scrapped. roof also cooked and will need lots of cataloy to fix it, rear quarters also done in but repairable

rust holes so far
8 inch hole in boot on drivers side
4 inch hole in opposite side
10 inch hole where rear passenger wheel arch meets floor
2 inch hole opposite side
both rear arches
both sills front to back
hole in bulkhead at passengerside
3 inch hole in chassis leg on passengerside
front crossmember totalled

It will definitely be a great car i look forward to seeing it when its all finished.
I know how you feel I havnt been able to drive mine for nearly four years because of working on the engine conversion but its very close now so hopefully be worth all my hard work money and stress lol.
Good luck mate it will be worth the wait and it will be pretty unique
