2013 Sat Nav Playing Up
« on: 04 May 2010, 22:11:06 »

My sat nav is getting unreliable recently; it won't always read the map disk straight away but usually mends its ways after warming up.  Perhaps the CD is scratched or the lens in the drive misaligned?  Any ideas please?   :'(

Guessing laser focus issue.

Are you using a genuine map CD?

Yeah original CD.  Can the laser focus be adjusted or will I have to put up with it?

The laser will adjust itself automatically in those units, but is possibly nearing the end of its operational life due to its age.

Worth trying to clean the lens though, you may get a bit longer out of it providing you are carefull.

(avoid any chemical cleaners - breath on it and wipe away the mist with a lint free cotton bud)

 ;)

Sorry, we can`t supply lasers for that one

Hey thanks for swift reply.  Yes I suspected it would be too hard/not worth doing.  At least it does still get going after a few minutes; I just can't rely on it in a hurry when lost!  Yes i did try CD-based dry cleaners to little effect.   :y
