Title: MOT and back seat removal
Post by: Viral_Jim on 24 November 2019, 00:08:03
So, the Sh!troen Bingo is due an MOT 20th Jan, so planning to take it a month before after I finish for Christmas.

Can anyone in the know tell me whether I need to clip the back seats back in to pass the test or if it can go without?

I realise it's only laziness that's preventing me from refitting them, but they're at the back of the garage behind/under assorted other cr@p.  ;D

Should be fine without... 'Expect an advisory for rear seats not fitted unable to test' or some such... ;)

This. In addition the seatblet won't get tested. :y

Seatbelt mountings would be present, surely?

Unless its changed very recently, if there's no seat in place the belt doesn't get tested. Useful if you've got a sticky belt and the parts haven't arrived to replace it before test day...

The car has 3 individual seats, rather than a bench. Seat belts are present, two fully retracted into the c pillars and one (I think) mounted into the roof structure. The lower mounts and clips are attached to the seats, rather than the car.  :y

I'd put the seats back in for test ,insurance states 5 seats ,logbook states 5 seats
so removing seats will flag on the mot ,which the insurance could then say "modified" or untested
which, god forbid ,you had an accident ,the first thing insurance will do is look at the MOT and try and wiggle out of paying
or pay out 40% (the number of seats fitted )  ;D
as you have them anyway, and not a hard job ,may as well put them back

Unless the seats are designed to be removable... Like the Trolley, non drivers seats are all designed to be lifted out.  ;)

Are the rear seats on a Zafira tested if stowed? For example...  ;)

the picasso had removable seats too but got fitted
I always have all the seats up for test on the  zafiras and remove child seats etc  ,with the belts plugged in ,shows the tester I've been there and tested ,and makes it quick/easy for him to visually examine and test  :y

That wasn't my question  ;)

but I don't know the answer because it's down to the NT ,go buy the letter of the MOT manual,if the tester can get at the seats and belts,he should put them up and test them, boot full of junk ,he can advise not tested  :-\
many MOT testers don't/can't/won't read the manual ,and interpretation of the manual is another variable  ;D

Thanks all.

If I come across them before test day I'll drop them back in. Otherwise we'll see what the tester has to say.

I took my Smart Roadster for MOT years ago with just the one seat. (I was leaking finding) I explained why, he asked if the seat was going back in  ..... it got a pass! But I have been using the same tester & testing station for 20+ years  :y

Here’s an idea from left field, ring the MOT shop and ask them.  ::)

Tried that. I got the office girl who (unsurprisingly) had no idea. She then went to get someone who also said they didn't know. At which point I lost the will to talk to them any more.  :y
