Checked the 2.0 ltr over for it's MOT tomorrow, every thing looks good to go,it's got to fail on wishbones/steering idler etc as they have never been changed since it hit the road in 1998,got all the goodies in the boot ready for the bad news but TBH I think it's going to go through as usual.....fingers crossed ::)

Fitted the new radiator  :y :y :y  Had a call at 0840 from the dealers telling me it was in, picked it up at 9 and got on with it, not too bad a job, a couple of little clips need sorting properly, but that will wait a week or two.

One oddity, after fitting and checking everything, went to fill the header tank with just water (I thought I'd flush the system a couple of times before putting coolant in) and the float just rose to the surface, completely detached from the spindle ! So back to the dealers in the clit and pick up a new tank. Easily fitted :)

After 3 flushes and no sign of leaks, 5 litres of pink in, top up with a merest smidge of water and test drive... no problems to report  :)  Heater works (very hot), no leaks, 86 air con on, 88 air con off, have to be stationary with 3500-4000 revs with air con off  for nearly 6 minutes before fans kicked in at 92. Back home, ATF checked (as I loosened the bolt it started to seep so I reckon its good), coolant level is good but still quite warm. Will allow to cool before checking again.

So as Chris has said by text ...  "Sorted" and we'll be departing for Scotland first thing in the morning .. only a 10 hour drive :(

Many thanks for all the offers of help, advice and even cars, all very much appreciated. OOF at its best  :y :y :y :y

Well done fella. At least your sad time hasn't been exaggerated by a dodgy car.

Managed to get the Bullet out of shape - the first time those RT's have let go or lost traction since I've had them. Heart rate back to normal.

My brother under my instruction did both front wheel bearings on my car. An hour to do both, Windy gun is your friend for undoing them pesky hub nuts.  ;) ;)

So you'd recommend them then? ::)

I've got to say, I'm impressed with the Enduro's as a budget tyre... They've been reasonably reliable, even on the cold and slightly damp roads on Sunday night when I was giving it large :y But they are still a budget tyre... Probably man enough for wallowy Elite suspension but anything a bit more sporty and reliable and they're not going to cope, although mine's not perfectly set up ::)

From an outright grip perspective, wet or dry, yes. But I'd rather have TTs

Fitted new Bosch aero blade twin wipers.

Not cheap, but so far, they are almost completely silent. :o

Stripped and rebuilt the rear brakes and fitted a nice new shiny handbrake cable, which works 8) horrible, horrible job to fit though :-\ won't be rushing out to do that again...

Thanks Chris :y

Just the front brakes to do tomorrow, then Taxi Mot on Friday...

Oh yeah, and helped Al sort his hand brake. Drums, shoes, no problem. What could possibly go wrong.

Ah, the cables buggered. Unluckily for me (;D) the local factors had one in. £27 :o so we had that and fitted it. What a shite job that is! :(

Anyway it's done now. Curry earned. :y

Cleaned IACV an breather jet (totally blocked) and replaced cam covers (for the 3rd time  :P) No stalling anymore, stays on around 800 rpm and reacts quickly when presing gas pedal and doesn't smell like burnt oil now. Still some things to do but I'm happy  ;D
