Frontera is broke
« on: 10 June 2015, 14:23:08 »

Had brake fluid light come on the other week when on response team work, topped it up,thought it was just pads going down lol, whilst at race for life, last sunday, just glanced down at passenger side front wheel and noticed the suspension was damp,so after work today, investigated it and found a pin prick hole in brake pipe, cant complain, was original pipe so done well  ;D

If your brake lines are broken then you'd have to be careful otherwise you might run into something and break something else because your brakes are broke.

TB would have bought the 3.2 fronty but he hadn't got room on the drive at the time  :(

Nearly bought a 3.2 Frontera a couple years ago when I was looking to change from the Vectra B.... was nice too but speedo was a bit faulty, I wasn't bothered as it was a common problem and an easy fix....

Long story why I didn't buy it :(

I really am trying to think of something nice to say about the Frontera, as they are a god awful ride on road, and incapable off road.  They do come in colours that girls would like. Can't think of anything else nice to say.

My 3.2 had the fault they all have with the clocks , you have to have the side lights on to make all the gauges work  :( Then the auto box kept going in limp mode even after a fluid and filter change . Just had enough of it in the end and became a boat anchor on the drive  ::)

Did you have to buy the flaring tool martin? Or did you have that knocking about?

I had a brake line mot failure a couple years back. Really wanted to do it myself but at that point I'd not used the tool and was a bit intimidated by the job. Really chomping at the bit to do it now tho  :)

A word of warning. New cars tend to have steel brake pipes. Steel is cheap and strong but a bugger to work with hand tools (and it rusts).

Replacement pipes tend to be copper or Cunifer (Cunifer is a stronger and harder than pure copper).

Practice on old copper or Cunifer pipe if you want to but old steel (especially if it is rusty) will damage your flaring tool :(

Everybody does that. Most of us have probably put the fitting on backwards too 8)

I now slide the fitting onto the pipe just before putting it into the flaring tool.

It's remembering tho Nick. There's usually one crucial element I forget on most jobs  ::) ;D
