Just changing rear wheel bearing, hub nut easily removed by Tamforce Twinhammer 3/4, having torque of 1600Nm. Back plate badly corroded. Can I open those four bolts to remove it or do they all Snap?

They're a pain. Make sure you clean the bolt heads thoroughly and have a very good quality socket bit that's the correct fit. It's a 1/2" drive Triple Square M10 (XZN) splined bit. Extra long if you are going through the hole in the hub. If the socket is not a good fit due to dirt and corrosion then it's very easy to strip the spline sockets in the heads of the bolts. Perhaps try several blasts of Shock & Unlock.
You might find it problematic to get new back-plates. Somebody on the forum eventually found a pair in Germany. Not sure of the thread.

OK, thanks, one of my friend proposed to heat the bolts red before turning them but the gas tank is very close that I would not to do that. The corrosion is not the only problem but I would like to change the shoe pins as well. The front one is "rigid" it does not move in the hole, perhaps corroded so badly. The one in back is loose and seems ok. Heard that someone here recommended an alternative method to fix the shoes? What's that?

What model year is the Omega? Is it your post face-lift 2.6?

Yes, newest modell (2001), pins cannot be removed without taking the plate away..

I've done several rear wheel bearings, and need to remove the backing plate to use my hub extractor. None of the bolts have ever needed more than a tweak with a normal size 3/8 ratchet. I do give the bolt heads a squirt of brake cleaner to get the crud out of them, but that's standard practice for any internally gripped bolt. External ones get a scrub with a wire brush if they're dirty.

Backing plates for the Omega A (Carlton) have been remade in Germany. I don't know if they fit the Omega, but I have bought 3 sets for Lotus Carltons, and am happy to compare pictures and dimensions if it helps you.

Found something, I am afraid that Omega A, Senator B, Vectra A and Calibra have that but not Omega B???

Most of the rear axle is the same between Omega A, Senator B and Omega B. It would expect the Omega A plates to fit Omega B. My only concern would be if there is something different with the vented rear disk setup on later Omega B's. Depending on the price of the back plates, I'd just take a punt and order them.

OK, I just checked the spare part number and it was different, hope they'll fit.

I don't know about the Omega A/Carlton,but with the Senator A/Monza/SenatorB and PFL Omega B the hold down pins for the handbrake shoes were put in from the brake shoe side and held by engaging in shaped slots in the back plate where from MFL Omega onwards[I think I've got the changeover timing right] the pins were put in through the back plate passed through the brake shoes and were held with a cup washer.Easy enough to get round of course by simply buying the correct pins/springs/washers for whatever suits the back plate.

I found a new Omega B plate for right side, already finished RH bearing change so I will change the plate next winter without removing hub. Please inform whether Senator plate works (I order it to LH).

I'd vote the back plates on Senny/Omega A and Omega B would be a 'doable fit'. I'm always on the lookout for a pair to add to my 'private parts warehouse' (shed) and were I to see a set for Omega A/Carlton I'd have got them, however there does seem to be a small difference on pics Ive found, now...
Where have you found these remanufactured ones, out of interest?

TBW Automotive in Germany seem to making them, I have got some here (Daventry, Northants) if you want to compare to Omega B.

I'll get soon the original one for Omega B from Germany. Then I can make some pictures and inform about dimensions.
