I wonder if any of you guys can help me. About a week ago my 2.6 cut out and was found to have a faulty crankshaft sensor (which was replaced 8 months ago with a non genuine one) and I had a Vauxhall one fitted. Today she cut out again and my mechanic says it is a faulty camshaft sensor. My brother brings a second hand one that he had stashed in his loft, we connect it and car still won't start. Same camshaft fault codes coming up, any ideas?

Cam sensors very rarely fail on the V6 engines.

Might be worth double checking that it really is a cam sensor code, not the crank sensor again.

If so, it might be worth checking the cam timing is still OK and hasn't slipped.

Cheers Kevin both mechanic and my brother cleared the codes and it came up with the same code. I will get my mechanic to check if anything has slipped. Car has only done about 11000 miles since cambelts were done nearly 2.5yrs ago.

Maybe the sensor wire is too close to the exhaust and got damaged? It does have insulation at the bottom end but not the whole way.

Have changed two 3.2 sensors... V6 ones are pretty reliable with their codes. If it says cam sensor, then cam sensor it is

But the Cam sensor shouldn't cause it to die I think? It should still run with the light on?

Started the car just now and disconnected the cam sensor whilst she's running and engine doesn't cut out but engine management light comes on. Plug sensor back in and light goes out after a few seconds. So I don't thick the cam sensor is faulty.

I disconnected camshaft sensor and it started without it plugged in? So I've must have another fault.

Or you unplugged the knock sensor

Cam sensor is on the left side bank on top of the cam in the front right?
And knock sensors are on each side of the block hidden really well almost inaccessible?

Definitely the cam sensor on the nearside front. Part no. 0 232 103 025.

When we first got our 2.6 V6 Estate it kept stalling.  Went back to main dealer (via seller as under warranty) - codes showed failed cam sensor.  Dealer changed crank sensor as failed cam sensor rare - still stalled.  Changed cam sensor solved problem - they do stall due to failed cam sensor   Never had stalling in the following 70K miles.

Started this morning and run for 5secs then cut out, then wouldn't start (engine electronics /immobiliser light on constantly).  10 min later fired light stayed on for 5 sec then went out. Drove her down the road less than 1/2 a mile and left her with the mechanic.
