Omega General Help / Re: Slow water leak on V6 - Head Gasket ?
« on: 31 October 2007, 09:26:55 »
The V6 does run pretty hot. Nothing to worry about, depending on the actual temp. reading of course.

What is the temp. guage actually reading?

I'd be very surprised if it was the head gasket. 110K is nothing to a V6. As B says, check for the heater bypass valve, then check all your coolant pipes at the rear of the engine, followed by the pipes at the stat and radiator (at the front right of the engine).

If they are all ok, the next thing i'd check is the plate which covers the oil cooler as the seal may be gone there, it's located in between the two banks, ie, in the centre of the V.

All of these are easy fixes.

Good luck.

That was my thought...but wasnt sure if the later Omegas all had AR35's?? Nice car Kev, very nice!
Thanks.  :y

To be 100% sure, the boxes are marked as 25 and 35 so you could always check. There is a plate riveted onto the passenger side of the box.  ;)

Some diagnostic codes would help.

Does your friend have a computer (Tech2 or other) for retrieving fault codes?

Broocie!  :o As a copper, you more than anyone should know that the Daddy of recent big Vauxhall cars, the SENATOR, also came with a digital speedo.   ;D  ;D

They probably never had the digital speedos in the plod cars though, just calibrated analogue, with more increments.  :-?

Omega General Help / Re: irmscher Sportstar Tyre Sizes

Do you think it would look right with 235/40 x 18 front & 265/35 x 18 rear?

I've only ever had the 265/35 x 18 - 235/40 x 18 combination on my car, that's what irmscher said they should be, so i can't really comment on the other sizes.

What i will say though is that the tyre walls do look a wee bit too big for my liking.

Also worth considering how much your speedo will be out by using an incorrect size combination.

As requested, some pics of my own car.

She's wearing the recommended 265/35 x 18 to the rear & 235/45 x 18 on the front.

As i said, the Conti's are expensive, but they do look good, and the performance is equally as impressive.  :y

PM Sent.  :y

For anyone else...

With regard to the split size SportStar's i.e. wider rims on the rear...

The doc that came with my wheels gave details of all the sizes you could run with, but the recommended tyres and sizes from irmscher were...

Continental SportContact2 235/40 x 18 front & 265/35 x 18 rear.

I run them between 32 & 34 psi, depending on the weight i'm lugging.

The Conti's are bloomin' expensive, but what i will say is that they do look good.  8-)

On R plate 2.0l, it will be GSM only. Connector behind drivers kick panel.

Yep, GPS antenna has a distinct shaped base. Larger than standard.

Yes, I can do firmware, alas I'm nowhere near you :(

What year is yours?  Most up to 2000 seem to be V5
It's a 2001.

I know your not near but if wasn't a big job i could just stop in one of the times i'm going to London.

Much rather have someone i trust doing it anyway.  ;)

I did the MV6 around October last year, no problems at all. It was a GS8.20 ECU, took from V5 to V9.  It seems like its the V8 to V9 that makes the difference.

When I picked up the Elite the other day, one of the first jobs was doing the g/box firmware - couldn't tolerate it on its old software....
Can you do the firmware Jaime?

What version do you reckon would be in mine?

if the pipe is stubborn, just gently grip it with big plumbing grips and rotate it side to side, GENTLY.... works every time for me..
Yup, tried that too. LOL.  ;D

Ho Ho Ho.  ;D

Ah the memories. My coolant pipe just refused point blank to come out of the stat housing, no matter how much i wiggled/levered the damn thing. Was at it for hours! I ended up with a bust lip due to being a bit over zealous with a pry bar. Missus freaked when she seen all the blood, admittedly there was a lot.  ::)

At that point i let Mr Hacksaw loose on the housing, a big screwdriver in the half cut it had made on the housing, one chap from a hammer and the hard bit was over. Slide the pipe out, unbolt the housing, and it's done. :y

Remember your flush. And flush. And flush. ;)
