General Car Chat / Breakdown renewal
« on: 10 March 2016, 17:21:25 »
Tunnie's saga reminded me I needed to tell the RAC that they were having a giraffe with their renewal quote, and that it had been "frozen" for this year wasn't gonna cut it.

£141 for both of us as personal members, including recovery to anywhere. Yeah, get lost, I have the same loyalty to breakdown firms as they have to me.

Usual 'dangle berries' trying to cancel, but did offer a suitable discount that I found acceptable, and was significantly less than next cheapest I could find including cashback offers.

So looks like another year of the RAC for me.

...its been giving me grief, and the cost of repair didn't make sense.

So I've sourced a replacement that I picked up last night. Just need to arrange scrapping the old one.

Bit gutted, as its been brilliant, and withstood all the abuse I could throw at it  :'(

Email arrived.

Dear Mr TB,
yada yada research has shown you wanted us to simplify call costs yada yada.

So now, rather than 1ppm in the evenings, its 4ppm.

Yeah, right.  Time to reprogram the phones to use another provider for outgoing calls.

What is it with Telcos trying to butt rape me today  >:(

Got a text from EE, saying they'll be calling in a little while. On cue, they did indeed call. As a "loyal customer", they had some great, unbeatable deals for me...

EE: "I see you mostly used data and texts"
Me: "That's correct, I probably only use 90 mins a month on average"
EE: "I've checked you're account, and see that you are paying £10/month, and getting 250mins, unlimited texts and 3Gb data?"
Me: "Sounds about right"
EE: "Well, we can beat that I'm sure, can you hold?"
Me: "Certainly"
.....
EE: "I can offer you 1000mins, unlimited text and 1Gb data for only £11.99, do you want to set it up now?"
<Silence followed by the sound of TB's head repeatedly banging the desk>

Handbrake/Fluid level flickering, though mostly on.

Topped up brake fluid, no different. Unplugged sensor, no different. Thus guessing its the handbrake switch which looks to be under handbrake lever.

Is this accessible without removing centre console?

General Discussion Area / Win10 sent to try me
« on: 13 February 2016, 17:49:31 »
My old desktop, slightly older than my laptop (Vista era), why not, let it upgrade to MS's latest and greatest.

I found out after the "successful" upgrade that it had an ATI card, so no more dual monitor for me, and AMD being the scum of the earth, claim its compatible, but only by using MS basic driver (hence 1 monitor only). No intention of creating a driver. But then this is AMD (why oh why oh why do people buy their junk?).

Never fear, I'll use the rollback facility :D. Only it wouldn't  >:(.

OK, lets rebuild to W7 from scratch, sigh.  Now I cant get Windows update to work. A whole day lost :(

If that wasn't enough, I've discovered an incompatibility between some very old code I wrote (VB6, wriiten in around 1997/8), and I suspect to debug it, I'll have to try to "encourage" VB6 to go one Win10...  ...seeing as it was shitty under W7 (hence I have 1 XP machine for maintaining my bro's POS stuff), that could be tomorrow lost as well.

Grrrr.

Still, at least Win10 installed successfully on his (defficult to get support/drivers) Aures Yuno tills, so that one headache gone :)

« on: 16 January 2016, 10:30:35 »
Need to replace UPS.  Sadly as *everything* goes through it, its a full shutdown - hypervisors, storage, switches, router, everything - so reckon on a couple of hours.

Probably Sunday.

General Car Chat / Newbury Bypass
« on: 06 January 2016, 18:44:13 »
I see "local" BBC news are creaming themselves up over the 20yr anniversary of the Newbury Bypass.

So they are interviewing the great unwashed and do-gooders. Blimey, there are some incredibly thick people in this world.

Apparently, dealing with protestors was 20% of the total cost :o.  Bullets would be cheaper.

Anyone have any views?
