They are all naff and tacky. We know that.

So who's got their's up, and why not post some pics, so we can vote who has the best most tacky indoors and outdoors.

I ain't got none, so I can't join in ;D

What have durex done to their batteries to ensure you can guarantee they leak?

I noticed this over the past couple of years, to the point that I actively went around everything in the house to remove durex and replace with other makes...  ...except the thermostat which I clearly forgot.  And yes, they have leaked in there. oppsit.

General Car Chat / Insurance. Opps.
« on: 24 November 2015, 19:33:15 »
No idea why I specifically checked this evening, but I was thinking it should be able due.  Talk about cutting it fine, runs out in 4.5hrs ;D

Time constraints meant I didn't shop around, so went with previous insurer

General Discussion Area / May have some server glitches today
« on: 15 November 2015, 11:04:32 »
Need to do some work tidying up the cables, updating the switch firmwares, upgrading and patching one of the hypervisors, and identifying free ports.  Inevitably, that'll mean elements of disruption.

Plan is to bring up a fresh hypervisor downstairs, and get stuff running stable there, then I can rip out the spaghetti of network and power cables from my office and get it put in neatly and labelled, and ensure that that needs to is running off the UPS...  ...obviously it'll never stay that way  :-[

So if you need a guide today, print it off now!

General Discussion Area / Emergency outage of server
« on: 07 October 2015, 18:57:19 »
Apologies for short delay, but need to shut down one of the physical servers that the OOF servers sit on.

Probably be down for and hour or more, as hypervisor restart is a nightmare :(

General Car Chat / Too much fun
« on: 29 September 2015, 18:33:17 »
Clearly I've been having too much fun, as the car ran out of gas on the way to work. 15 gallons in under 200 miles. Opps.

Obviously, the problem now is I've gotta drive on petrol, as no rather filling station around these parts want to sell anything other than crap coffee and microwave pies >:(.  The useless mongrels at Shell in MK near The Bowl haven't had LPG for 2 or 3 months now.  oppswits, all of them.

General Discussion Area / ESX nesting
« on: 28 September 2015, 18:42:42 »
Never really played with nesting on VMware's flagship ESXi hypervisor before, as its not a supported option, but learn I must.

So I currently have ESXi 6 running on a cheap ProLiant, running 4 VMs - 2 x ESXi 6 (yes, as VMs :o), one centos 7 and one win7.

How do you rate my chances of moving the Windows VM to one of the VMs running ESXi, then moving that ESXi VM to run under the other ESXi VM....

I'm drawing a blank :(

All I want is a pedestal/set of drawers that (just) fit under a standard office desk, in beech, ideally 4 drawer.

How hard can it be?  I can find plenty of desk high ones, and plenty of short ones (leaving wasted space between drawers and desk). None that are the right height.

Any gems of wisdom?

General Discussion Area / Silly tit
« on: 23 September 2015, 19:16:02 »
Once again, currently laying in the bath.

Last time I did, I had a small mishap.

I appear to have twisted/sprained/hurt my ankle over the weekend, no idea how.

Anyway, as I got out of the bath, I had to do so the "wrong" way round to how I normally do, so I could put my dodgy foot out first, slowly transfer weight, and steady myself. All very slowly and deliberately. So far so good. Now to get the good leg out, easy peasy.

Only I caught my (good) heel on the edge of the bath, slightly unbalancing me, causing a stab of sharp pain up my poorly ankle, completely unbalancing me, falling arse over tit backwards, smacking my bonce against the door, knocking me senseless, and then landing on my right arm awkwardly and heavily, making it go immediately dead.

So I'm wedged between the door and the sink, with my head now in the bin that's scattered its contents everywhere, and struggling to move with agony in my poorly ankle and no feeling in my right arm. And Mrs TB, having heard the commotion, repeatedly trying to open the door, right into my back.

What a stupid arse I was.

Today, I've brought the cordless phone in, she can supervise ;D

General Car Chat / Following on... ...Zafiras

Following on from the other thread....

Seem to be either loathed by their owners or "quite liked" in a utilitarian kind of way.

Why is it like Marmite?
