Never had a ferret or whippet but I do have a big German / Belgian shepherd cross called Gromit and our lass loves meerkats, is that close enough ?

Just for clarity and accuracy, Kingston Upon Hull is the only city in East Yorkshire but we don't care

Hull is Hull, it can't make it's mind up weather it wants to be in Yorkshire, a county on its own, or become part of lord Optis estate known as Lincolnshire.

Yes, that's funny as a friend who moved to Grimsby a few years ago has complained to me she couldn't get any cod in the local fish n chip shops. She said that all they had was haddock!!

I still cannot believe that, but does anyone from there know the truth?

As a Cleethorpes lad (ie: the town next door/clumped next to/glued together with Grimsby/one side of one street is in Grimsby, the other in Cleethorpes, that's how dolloped together the two towns are) yes, you can get cod, Haddock, and a couple of places will do you skate, shark etc. We've only the one thing to be proud of, really, and that's fish n chips done well. If she can't find cod, she's not looking hard enough!
