I'm glad there were no nasty surprises. because if it had needed a lot more doing to it then chances are the poor old thing would be making it's final journey to the scrapyard. but my faith in the car has been restored to a point and now i'll see about getting the aircon working and some other little jobs doing before we have another ice age.
Took mine for it's MOT and it failed on the 3 items I new it would namely the front nearside wishbone (bush) offside rear shock absorber and the bloody airbag light from when I changed the nearside windows after the local chavs smashed them.
I've driven two of them a 2010 130 hatch and a 2012 160 tourer and the first was ok provided you gave it some stick to get anywhere. but the second one seemed like it was thrown together from whatever they had lying around judging by the fit of numerous parts on it. and don't mention DPF'S the thing was forever over revving to burn off the crap and the smell was enough to choke you to death if you stood near it for more than a minute or two.
As my car is up for it's MOT i thought i'd check around the car for anything obviously missing or damaged. and much to my surprise neither of the rear rubber hangers were there. so off to Halfords and i bought two that were apparently for a ford escort and they fit a treat.
As you say it depends on the situation. but more often than not ill knock it into neutral as I cant see the point of sitting there with it in drive if I'm not going anywhere.
The breathers on my first omega KB52 BXC were clogged full of gloop when I bought. and on X644 PKH were a little mucky. but on VN51 EAK they were spotless when I bought it and still are now after nearly 6000 miles and two oil changes.
I also replaced my scuttle. but managed to first put the wiper arms on the wrong sides as well as not letting the mechanism park beforehand. yet again it's just another one of those days when I seem to be able to mess up the easiest of jobs.
I recently acquired a remote and the box from nigel in Nottingham. but the buttons are damaged so that put that attempt to get it working on hold again.
In my attempts to change the oil/filter I put an axle stand under the nearside chassis leg and when I finished I forgot to remove it resulting in me trying to move the car with it still there and it got lodged under the transmission mount and promptly cracked it, so now I've got to find another one .
My sensor has fallen to pieces too. could I adjust the headlamps to their correct position and get away with it on the mot or do I have to have it all working properly.
I actually ordered a timing belt kit from VCP and paid extra for it to be delivered as soon as possible but I waited a week and nothing turned up so it was cancelled and I had to buy one from eurocarparts instead.
My oil light comes on when it feels like it as do the TC light and the alternator. and now the airbag is on all the time joining whichever eml and the other service light which take turns to come on or stay off.
