Undertray repair
« on: 15 October 2017, 14:58:03 »

First service on the D5 completed over the weekend - total doddle but discovered something to be repaired next time I'm under it (in about 2 1/2 months time  ::)).

The undertray has two "lobes" at the back, each with a retaining bolt through it. One lobe has broken off leaving a 1" disc of plastic with a hole for the bolt through it. Any ideas on the best material to use to re-attach the piece? I'd thought about araldite, but think this might lack the necessary flex.

Maybe plastic weld it back together? Watched a YouTube vid on that once, looked reasonably straightforward.

Yes, if you mean plumbers' so;vent weld; it cures quickly and is stronger than the material itself.

Stitching it together with cable ties is a common repair for arch liners and undertrays:

Nick, that was my first thought but not sure if there's enough material to make it work.

The plastic welding which I saw was using a soldering iron and feeding in cable tie as a "filler rod". May give that a go if I have time or inclination.
