Dti stall then non start
« on: 22 January 2018, 18:29:24 »

I've bought another breaker, 03 dti estate with 73k on it, story was it was a perfect runner until they reversed off their drive then stalled it and it hasn't started since !

It'll spin over all day but not catch, they couldn't be bothered repairing or looking further into it. I'm 99% going to break it as it's a decent spec but I'm curious what the issue could be ?

Over to you  :)

Any codes?

If not a sensor, fuel delivery problem

Lack of fuel in the, tank when they reversed it off the drive, will need a good half tank of fuel change filters and prime thro.

Be somebody along soon to explain it better.

Crack the injector lines and get somebody to crank it over whilst applying some throttle to check if fuel is being pumped.

Is there fuel in the tank?
Could be the fuel pump maybe?

Brief look at this, turns over, only code was P1630 critical fuel injection failure or suchlike so I'm assuming the pump is buggered, I wonder if the fact there was air in the fuel system would this be a false code? i.e it's pumping air not fuel

I was tempted by this car originally but wondered what would be wrong with it and whether it would be expensive to fix..

Estates do seem to need a lot of fuel in the tank to start on a slope. I had the same story with a 2.6 estate. After following advice on here (which I was sceptical about) I chucked several gallons on the tank and it fired up first time.
However, diesel Omegas are known for troublesome fuel pumps so it could just as easily be that.
I seem to remember, from some time in the distant past, Fuse19 saying something to the effect that if your handy with a soldering iron, its not that hard to fix ?  :-\

Its the standard code when the engine is cranked, pump electrically appears to be behaving (to the controller) and the engine does not start/produce full power.

Get a priming bulb as per:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laser-3463-Diesel-Injection-Priming-Tool-Fuel-Pump-Vauxhall-2-2-2-0-Engine-X20DT/182235333576?epid=1705263933&hash=item2a6e1283c8:g:kV4AAOSwZVlXqDwC

Fit it in the fuel line feeding the filter.

Pump it and continue until it gets difficult....then continue a bit more.

Crack the injection pipes until fuel appears when cranking.

Tighten up and it should start.

If there is air in the system it absolutely will not run and cranking will not prime it.

Don't crank it over any more until you know you've got fuel at the pump. If not, and it wasn't buggered before, it will be afterwards. I'd fit a priming bulb as it's simple and cheap and pull the fuel through, See how much air you get and you might have an answer.

I'll give it a go as I need to get it running and see if engine/pump/turbo are good, they should be as it's been well looked after and low mileage at 73k
