car battery rip off
« on: 11 July 2020, 18:46:40 »

my son had until very recently had a diesel ford escort derived van. he needed a battery & a local garage that he rang told him to take it to them. they quoted him £70 so he left it with them . half a hour later he got a call & expected to be told it was ready instead they said when the quoted they hadn,t realised that it had a stop/start system & the quote had gone up a bit to £340.

So if you have a car with stop/start, Lord Opti's Jag XF-R for example.  What happens if you put an ordinary battery in and disable the stop/start every time.  ???

My granddaughters Qashqai  has had trouble with the batteries due to stop/start. Replacements very expensive too.

I disable it every time I start the beast.

My guess is you could use it for 1000 years and not save a single polar bear.

Makes SFA difference to MPG.

You'll kill it in short order. Especially in stop start traffic when you forget  ;D

Proper stop start batteries are AGM and much more resistant to abuse.

I meant if you religiously turn off the start/stop every time, as Lord Opti says he does.  ::)

The only car with start/stop I've driven was my mates Range Rover Sport in Houston, and I quickly learnt that you get very hot and sweaty in traffic with the stop/start on and the AC stops/starts as well.  So you turn it off, stay cool and kill a polar bear every time you go out!  ;D
