......of used motors. What would you choose?.

With family in mind.....a nice early plate Monaro or   5 litre V8 BMW M5 would suffice......But should I let my heart rule my head (which I usually do  )....then I rather fancy an early TVR Chimaera.....a nice big woofly V8.....no airbags .....no ABS.....no ESP....nice very nice.

I'd import a Holden Commodore V8,buy the youngest, highest spec Omega i could get my hands on, transplant the V8 into the Omega, full Irmscher kit it...

Spotted a rather nice Lotus carlton near me for £10,000, but thats just the starting price, god knows what it will go up to

I have always fancied just three cars since I was a child:

1930s Baby Austin 7 (or later Ruby)
1960 Pink Cadillac Convertible
1958 Chevrolet Impala

1) Austin A35 with V8 & dickey seat in the boot (only room left for the driver )
2) Morris Minor Traveller with V6 & 800 litre toroidal lpg tank in the load space (still plenty of room for a umbrella, picnic basket, thermos & sundry necessary pills, potions & ointments to keep an Old Codger going )
3) Complete new engine/ running gear for my Mig plus a Bespoke walnut holder for my Bus pass (just in case it all goes Pete Tong;)!)

I've owned all three at various times, unmodded of course , & can say hand on heart  they have been/are excellent motors (Honest )

10K - you're really in my territory here......

yes, they do do a Holden V8 Estate, if you're going to import a car you could just go for that - I don't actually think that there are any estates here. I bought my Commodore for £4900 a year ago, but it has a duff gearbox - expect to pay £7500 for a good one. Forget about putting the engine in an Omega, the Commodore is superior in every way - it has no traction control, no toys, 375BHP and a steering rack, not a box. It's also much more economical than any of my Omegas. Mind you, at first glance, it does look like an Omega.

if it must be an estate, then a Audi S4 avant would be the choice, 300 bhp, four wheel drive and a chunk of change for your £10K

going on to saloons, then there's lots of really great motors to choose from :-

Mercedes E55, BMW M5, BMW 540 (even estate), Jaguar XJR, even older stuff like Merc 500SEL, too.

my choice would have to be a Bentley Turbo R. Mine cost £4050 and although it'll cost more to run, especially buying spares, it really is a thing of beauty, not just a car.
