Oxford COV19 Vaccination and Brexit Tax
« on: 23 November 2020, 19:32:37 »

So here's a thought, how much Import Tax on the Oxford Vaccination are we going to charge our EU Members when we leave with Brexit at the end of December ?  :y

Or we just going to give it away like everything we've invented over the years, I mean why change the habit of a lifetime.  ::)

I read somewhere the vaccine that has to be kept at -70C is about £15 a dose and the other one about £28. Cannot see any reason why the Oxford one wouldn’t  also be sold at a similar price.

I think that the Oxford vaccine doesn;t require such stringent storage.  :-\

Huh?

The UK sets import duties and taxes on stuff imported to the UK, which ultimately UK consumers end up paying.

The EU sets import duties and taxes on stuff imported to the EU, which ultimately EU consumers end up paying.

The UK won't be setting import taxes into the EU any more than the EU sets import taxes into the UK (post BREXIT).

And finally, the IP involved in the vaccine will be owned by either Oxford University or Astra/Zenica (or some combination of the two), so what makes you think HMG have any say on who gets the vaccine, and how much they have to pay for it?

Oxford vaccine is said to be cheaper than either the Pfizer or Moderna ones,it's also said to be easier to transport/store than either of those too.

At risk of being rude... Haven't we already paid for it...  ::)

Who is 'we', and what have 'we' paid for?

As far as I can see HMG have paid for 100M doses (or something).  HMG do not have any ownership of the Intelectual Property.

Which will make its use and transport considerably easier. And therefore cheaper to implement, as it's no different to any other common vaccine - like flu vaccine. Each dose is much cheaper than the others.

Those are all excellent reasons to adopt it.

I have reservations about long term side effects, especially as the studies have been pushed through much quicker than is normal. Those reservations aren't enough to persuade me not to accept it

It reportedly requires two doses to reach 90% effectivity.

Personally I would prefer to pay slightly more, once, for a higher protection rate.  :-\

I believe all of the vaccines tested were based on 2 doses.
