Fraid so. Insurance company looks at the risk of a claim and quite a number of elderly drivers are involved in bumps and scrapes. The very young and very old get hammered for insurance. The whole industry is a swizz.

General Car Chat / Re: Meriva mirror glass vanished
« on: 09 April 2016, 19:53:17 »
Exactly the same happened on my Omega. Instead of buggering about with sticky backed mirrors. I replaced the unit from the the shop in the link below.

I unclipped the old one out, took the wire off the spade connector and then reverse to fit the new one. Perfect fit and heats as well as the original part.

There are a number of Meriva ones from the same shop as per the link below. I'd happily use him again.

General Discussion Area / Serek again !
« on: 07 April 2016, 17:29:01 »
Just driven home after picking up my car at Serek's garage again. It was in for a cambelt change, full service, new radiator and air con re-gas.

All jobs done with a new crankshaft seal that I didn't realise was leaking. Serek kept me up to date as to how the work was going too.

All work explained to me in great detail and I paid a very reasonable price. Serek is a gentleman and it was well worth the 100mile round trip.

Cheers Serek, see you soon.  :y

Maybe a video of the aftermath of a fatal road accident involving say, a child would be more interesting ?

They could show the efforts of the ambulance crews, the mother screaming her dead child's name, the police officer acting as continuity, watching the tiny broken body placed in the mortuary fridge, the heartbroken parents explaining why the wee bother or sister isn't coming home again, the headmaster telling school friends at a special assembly, the funeral, the heartbreak, the complete and utter heartbreak. All because the driver couldn't stop in time because of excess speed.

Yes, I've seen all that and maybe if speeding drivers sampled it once, just once, they wouldn't regard their actions as acceptable.

Do I stick to speed limits ? Yes, yes I do. I get all kind of abuse for it but having completed 30 years of taking abuse, it means nothing to me.

For those of you of have never witnessed and dealt with above heartbreak, you have no idea. No idea.

Omega General Help / Re: Windscreen washers not working!!

Some pics to help.......

When you locate the screen wash pump, just pull it up and towards the car. It will then reveal the filter below which is a rubber grommet. Hopefully it's full of sludge and after cleaning it under a hose or a tap and putting it and then the pump back in place, you should have working screen wash jets. Good luck.

Filter in the tank may be blocked. Easy to clear. I'll post link shortly.

General Car Chat / Re: tyre safe to use if
« on: 02 February 2016, 19:09:58 »
Rubber will have degraded over time and therefore it's grip capabilities will be reduced leading to potential loss of traction and/or increased stopping distance.

Matter for yourself, but is it worth it for the sake of buying one tyre ?
