Vauxhall Omega prop shaft torque setting.
« on: 02 March 2018, 10:24:34 »

Hi everyone,

I am just needing a bit of help with regards to the prop shaft on the Vauxhall omega 1999. Does anybody know what the torque setting is for the bolts each end, please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou
Dan.

If hexagon bolt 95Nm
If torx bolt (never seen one in this situation) use new bolt, 50Nm, then angle tighten 75degrees, then a further 15degrees.

Yeah, that.

I don't think I've ever used a torque wrench on a prop shaft bolt. We've recently fitted a propeller to a Lycoming radial where the official procedure was: hang a 180lb weight(a man) 3 feet from the prop nut, and hit the bar end sharply with a 4lb hammer. When you're supporting one blade of the prop on your shoulder while this is going on, it makes you wonder just how good your welding on the tool you made to do the job actually is

Never torqued them and my experience as a breaker is that they aren't done up that tight from factory

Probably worth a dab of threadlock on them too. Propshaft bolts often come pre-treated with such and you don't really want them coming undone. :y

And I think we all know that fateful noise from when we've forgotten to put the bolts back in following certain jobs ;D

Yes, and watching dents appear in the transmission tunnel while you wonder why there's no drive and it sounds like Motorhead are doing a sound check under the car is even more fun. :D

I thought that they were around 60nm, tight, but not tight enough to require a breaker bar ;)
