Gloucestershire meet - spring/summer 2008
« on: 04 December 2007, 01:51:16 »

Just wondering how much interest there would be for a weekend camping meet in Gloucestershire, as soon as the weather starts to pick up a little?

Reason being, I have discovered that I may be able to secure a rather large amount of space (several acres), for extremely low cost. (Around £5 per person, for the weekend).

There would be no real facility for lifting cars to work underneith them, but we could probably get away with a few cambelt changes and odd jobs. Guy that owns the land is a good friend of my family, so wouldn't want to leave any mess etc. There would be no facilities for hookups or burger vans - this is camping only.

This is only a "potential" at the moment, but please post up with any serious interest, and if there's enough, I will make the relevent enquiries and see if it's possible to be a goer :)

Would be interested but I'm afraid SWMBO would never go back to canvas ... its the mobile shed or nowt .. don't need hook-ups or anything fancy.. we spend many weekends in fields with nothing but a tap and a few beers  :)

Newent had the facilities, and we managed to do most jobs that didn't involve lifting.  Probably more 'family friendly', as you know what wives/girlfriends are like with toilets etc.

Admittedly a little more money, but many will want the extra facilities....

Just my 2p...

Would have to be a formal site for us I fear. Mrs Golfbuddy absolutely refuses to squat over a hole in the ground any more.

Women ::)

Sounds great though, can't wait.  :y

Who said anything about wives/girlfriends? :P

On a serious note, Newent is cool with me too. I would love to come to this one, so hopefully we can find some dates when I'm not on shift.

Count me in, whatever materialises :y

Mrs. KW would probably baulk at having no facilities, however. ::)

Only facilities I need are beer and bits of dead animal off the barbie. :y

Don't need a TV or PVR.  :o

Couple of hours at the lakes and I couldn't have focussed on the screen anyway!

Speaking of PVRs, I tried MythTv for the first time last weekend http://www.mythtv.org. I'm very impressed. Just need to find myself a low power consumption PC for it now.

What about the annual Welland Steam Rally, just outside of Upton-upon-Severn. Although you can't work on vehicles, they have a good massive campsite with good facilities, though no electric hook-ups.
It's a great 3-day event, conveniently situated, and with plenty to interest all the family. Go to www.wellandsteamrally.co.uk for more details. I'll be there!
