Omega General Help / Re: Broke down after selling
« on: 04 August 2009, 17:32:28 »
Ok but I don't know how to do the test. Is there a "workthru" somewhere on this site?

Also I get no engine managment light come on the dashboard. Does this mean no codes will be stored?

Omega General Help / Broke down after selling
« on: 04 August 2009, 17:15:53 »
I sold my Omega today to my brother. The car has been perfect but it konked out 10 minutes after he took it away!!! It took 10 minutes to get it to start again and then it drove perfectly. He called me again today to say it had konked out again while doing 30mph. Again it took 10 minutes to restart. I have now taken the car back and have taken it for a 15 minute drive under different conditions...........it was fine. I shall drive it as much as possible for a couple of days to see if it does it again. I did notice that when I turned the ignition off and restarted, it started but cut out straight away. I restarted it again and it ran fine  :-/ Any ideas?

Vauxhall now reckon it is the Cam sensor and are taking it off to test. They said if it comes back as ok then it is deffo the ECU.

Vauxhall who have the car at the minute says the ECU is fine  >:(

They reckon that fault code 17 came up indicating a Knock Sensor. Not sure how true this is but they said they need to take the cambelt covers off etc to investigate. So far the work has cost £250. I've told them that if the final price goes over £300 then they can keep the car or I will scrap it.

Omega General Help / Advice on buying a second hand ECU
« on: 20 August 2009, 11:22:07 »
Hi.

In an earlier thread I talked about the fact that my omega cuts out at random intervals and wont restart for 10 - 60 minutes. Well it finally gave up the ghost the other day. We thought it would be the crank sensor. Called the AA out and after tests he blamed the immobiliser. Next day we called Green Flag out and they came up with the same. Had it towed to Vauxhall garage. They tested all the sensors and they were fine. They think it is the ECU being faulty.

Can I have some advice on buying a replacement ECU second hand? I have seen some on Ebay but don't really know what I'm looking for. Can I choose any ECU that has come off a 1998 2.5V6? Would it need to come with keys or can my originals be re programmed to the new ECU's Immobiliser?  :(

Hi
That's the one for my car, so yes please I'm interested if I've not been beaten to it. How would you like paying.
When mine went last time I replaced it with a cheapy, but it has worried me ever since.

Don't bother with a cheap one... You'll be replacing it again very quickly!

Check your part number... If it's the one ending 2006 I have a genuine one I picked up a bit cheaper that you can have for £50 delivered if that's any help. :y :y

I'll give the OP a chance first but if he doesn't want it then it's yours!

I didn't send it back because I got it cheap and thought someone could benefit :y :y :y

Oh, and because I'd opened the packaging in my eagerness to fit it before I checked the Part Numbers :-[ :-[ ::) ::)

It's ok, let him have it. I think I've got one lined up. Thanks anyway  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Broken Water Pump ??????

OMG great news!!!

The Omega has been fixed and is running sweet as a nut.

The timing belt HAD jumped 3 teeth. Luckily it didnt cause any damage. I'm well chuffed.

 :y

Just shows how tough these engines are!

The aux belt didnt fail and was actually still on the alternator, tensioner and water pump when it was taken off. I think in this case its unlikely to be that.

The V6 cambelt does not touch the water pump at all. It was only the 2.0litre version. The water pump is driven by the drive belt. Changing the water pump on a V6 does not disturb the cambelt. Hope that answers your question.  :y

As for my problem, I think its possible that when the bearing went in the water pump, it may had sent shards of metal at high speed onto the cambelt and made it jump teeth. I'm getting a diagnosis today and resetting the timing manually to see if the noise stops, but by the way the car sounds at the moment, its going to be sold as spares or repair!  :'(

It's been the best car ive ever had and im seriously gutted at the moment.

The noise is deffo coming from inside the engine block (either cams, valves or pistons)  Funny thing is tho that the engine is not running lumpy or anything, just very very noisy.

I know that the 2.0l version, the cambelt goes round the water pump but mine is the 2.5l V6 and is separate to the pump. I cant see how that can happen. Do you reckon it could still be the timing?
