must get my battery problems sorted..
« on: 28 March 2007, 14:34:47 »

just tryed to start the car, its not been driven in about 6 days.... it was really dead not even enough juice to pop the boot  :'(

When to try and start and heard, tick tick tick tick, indicators were flashing and so were all the dash lights!
under the speedo and rev counter  :o :o

Tried to jump it with my little box thing, no good thats run out of puff too....

So on went the trickle charger, it was reading 6v of power on the battery  :-? - I have had it saying 4 volts before....

Really starting to pi$$ me of this battery problem, noticed the positive terminal to the battery was not as tight as it could be, some movement in it.

Hopefully Kevin if your still free on Satuday? As I will have to go back via that way anyway... be good to get to the problem  :y

Btw the trickle charger is on, and put to slow charge 12v...... i may be asked to pick a freind up 5 miles away (does not want to take his 20" iMac on the bus)

Will it have enough charge by say 6pm to start?  :-/ :-/

I should be around. I'll be a bit further out of your way on Saturday because whilst I work at M3 J4A I live a little further afield near Alton. If you're around Thursday / Friday after work I could pop over, but I guess you'll be out on the lash (I would).

Depends how fast you're charging it. How much current does your charger deliver? If it's 5 amps or more you've got a chance I'd say.

Cheers,

Kevin

There is a small drinks event thursday as the entire year would have just submitted a project worth 33% of our entire final year mark  ::)

I will be around friday even (doubt be going out again) ... be good to track the problem then?

Ahh, those were the days. We normally started at lunch time though...   which was not long after we used to crawl out of bed!

Friday evening sounds do-able if you like. That charger ought to pack a reasonable punch into the battery in a few hours.

I would say that if the battery reading was 6v, then it's just about cream crackered, tunnie.

If those are readings from the charger, it'll be amps, not volts.

If it's taking 6 amps of charge from a 6 amp charger I'd say it's a good battery that's just flat.

I would not use a charger that put out more than 4amps, as any more will, over a period of time cause the battery to deteriorate.

Much better to trickle charge it over a longer period.
