Omega General Help / Re: When change serpentine belt
« on: 07 January 2009, 11:34:54 »
The cambelt & guides were changed at 40K miles - AFAIK the serpentine belt wasn't, nor the tensioner.  Its working hard in this weather (heated seat, heated window lighting etc).

I don't know if I should change it as a precaution or if I'm being overly concerned?

Omega General Help / When change serpentine belt

On my 3.2V6 (~69k miles) I've never changed the the serpentine belt.  What is expected lifetime of this?

Thanks, Steve

Hi
Are you sure its the transmission, also check oil pressure switch, the small oil seal goes causing oil to leak down the switch and then sprayed back when driving. :)

Its been too cold (for me anyway) to crawl about underneath.  Its not engine oil - different colour and taste (why did I do that  :-X)

Omega General Help / Trans fluid drip
« on: 03 January 2009, 14:16:55 »
Just saw a few drips of what I think is trans fluid on my garage floor after an overnight park.  Saw one drip about a month ago (and ignored it).

How is this likely to be leaking?  Where from?  What are the possible fixes?

Thanks for the guidance.

Omega General Help / Re: non bright lights

I had the sam eproblem on my old Senator (now have Omega Elite with HID; brilliant - pun intended, ha ha).

I measured the volt drop from battery to headlamp terminals - there was qute a voltage drop IIRC about 1V.  I used a relay to minimise this volt drop and it made a significant improvment.

only problem with it is the Drivers seat height adjuster dont work but it does on the passenger side, surly these would be fused together but they arnt because the other works, any tips guys?  :)

Mine seems similar (I'm awaiting a seat controller) if I disconnect the seat - large mutliway cable and then reconnect, the seat opeates fine for ~10 mins.

Is your's the same?

I know about the radio code but I thought it had to be on before you could enter it?

Prior to changing the battery, I had a few successful jump starts, but it finally packed up after a failed attemp. The leads got a bit hot so I didn't want to risk it. Could this have done any damage?

Which leads got hot ?  If the jump leads then this is not unexpected.

Omega General Help / Re: Climate Control check

I find the same in my 2001 3.2Elite - sometimes the air is blowing hot and other times cool - withthe same setting and after a while inthe car (1/2 hr).  I often have to fiddle with it to be comfortable.

Thanks, that bit spins. It's not so much as it not working - it just seems inconsistent, sometimes too hot sometimes too cold (I am male by the way!). Also possibly odd with left & right settings on as seperate. I wondered if there was a self-test proceedure, like the pedal test, to flag up if, say, it's management bit was faulty (no flashing spanner on start up). Would plug in diagnostics at garage tell?
There seems to be a few issues re: heating on the forum at the mo.

Omega General Help / Re: anyone used liquid leather?

I use gliptone, seems to do a good job.
Me too - however, my cream leather was clean when I bought the car and has remained clean and fed for the last 6 years.

Omega General Help / Re: Engine Flush
« on: 02 December 2008, 12:48:02 »
I have heard bad bad effects of flushing.  Crud is loosened and tends to block oil ways that can lead to oil starvation and major problems.

The modern engines e.g the Ecotec V6 have tight tolerance, hence they can operate with 'thin' synthetic oils.

Conclusion - do not flush, frequent oil changes are the best for longevity of your engine.

Could you suck the oil up the oil-filler tube in the interim?  You'll get 95% of the oil out.

The cylinders are cooled by liquid. Getting air to their vicinity will do nothing at all!

Spot on - specific heat of air is so much less than that of water.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_heat_capacity)  the table about half way down the entry shows the huge differnce.

Omega General Help / Where is the radio aerial?
« on: 09 November 2008, 18:43:34 »
I've bought one of those FM transmitters that allows me to listen to MP3 tracks.  When I plonk it on the front seat the reception is awful.  I don't know where the aerial is to place is ina better position.

I've tried walking around the car and reception seems good everywhere - until I get back inside that is!!
