Omega General Help / Re: Where is alarm
« on: 09 November 2008, 18:39:51 »
Thnank you Lee,

Just had a look, but have got stuck at the spline stage.  Will be asking around at work for a 'puller' tomorrow.

Hopefully its 'only' the internal battery that died - does that sound reasonable?  And can I get one from somewhere like CPC?

Omega General Help / Where is alarm
« on: 08 November 2008, 12:56:35 »
On my 2001 facelift 3.2 V6 Elite the alarm gives three bleeps sometimes as I turn off.

From the drivers seat it sounds as if this comes from under the bonnet, near the firewall on the off-side.

I've had a poke around there this morning but can't see anything like a bleeper or alarm control box to investigate.

Can anyone direct me to where this is?

I'm thinking that the internal back up battery (assuming there is one) has died through age - does that sound a fair guess?

Thanks, Steve

So i'll go for the crank sensor first then lads, thanks for all your advice, its much appreciated  :y

Roughly how much should I be charged for replacing it at a garage??

I paid about £35 for the sensor, I could have saved a bit through trade club, but needed the car.  Cost of total job was £125 by local independent garage in July this year - this included something for the call out from the garage to tell me it was the crank sensor.

You need to get a Trade Club card, or get someone with one to buy the bits for you. I don't remember the various ways to get a TC card but I'm sure someone will post for you.

Join Autobahnstormers  £20 IIRC  http://www.autobahnstormers.org/

Is the dipstick and oil filler cap correctly seated?  If not there could be an air leak that will confuse the ECU.   The actual airflow is not through the air flow sensor.

Omega General Help / Re: M P G running a/c?
« on: 29 October 2008, 18:39:47 »
The a/c takes about as much as having the window open, also I think the air con will load the ebgine depending on how much cooling it has to do. i.e if its not working hard it will not load the engine much.

I understand that the Prius is one of the most polluting cars - this is in the manufacture of the batteries as opposed to the running. The nickel processign has destroyed swathes of Canada.

Omega General Help / Re: centre vent, software?
« on: 28 October 2008, 13:53:25 »
Whats with this software upgrade?  My 2001 Lite has never had this (always serviced at a local independent garage).  What does the software do tha the earlier version doesn't?

I find my climate control always do what I expect e.g. blows cool if outside is mild (say 16) and I set to 23.  I have to raise demand to, say 25 to get warm air blowing.

Sorry to hijack thread  :)

Thanks, Steve

Omega General Help / Re: Seat heating and sunscreen

I had similar problem with rear blind.  It looked difficult to get to to look at - I was told its a common problem.  Fortunately for me, when I asked garage to have a look (during a regular service) they found that it was working OK.  I know this doesn't fix your problem but it may give you hope that it could be working again.

If I disconnect the data cable (the one with about 20 low power conenections in it) beside the seat, under the plastic cover.  Then if  I reconnect it the seat moves correctly in all directions and the mirrors moves to their memorised position - but only for about 10 mins.

So the seat electro-mechanics are OK.  It seems to me that this is the control that is failing, bearing in mind that the memory is retained correctly.  The door and rear-view mirrors do not move with the memory command when the seat will not move.

Thanks for that input Andy.

The lack of seat movement is a mystery at present.

This problem has been bugging me since August - its not bad enough to stop the car running, that why I leave it a while then have another look - it is very irritation.  I bought the car 'cos I liked the extra features; so I want them to work.

I would buy replacement parts - but not a VX prices.  Hence the enquiry about cars' being broken.

Thnaks Andy

I'll have a look around there at the weekend.

Another observation I made - when I turned off the ignition today I got three bleeps (sounded like an alarm chirp).  I heard this the other week and thought it was someone elses car alarm.  This doesn't occur every time I turn off.  The alarm is as standard from vauxhall.

Strange behaviour (and frustrating for me too).

Help appreciated.

Hi again

I've been away for a week and had the car MOTed, so asked the garage to have a look too - hoping they would have some relavent experience - no such luck.

So, is anyone breaking an Omega so I could try replacing, perhaps, the seat control module and the buzzer.  If so how much?

not sure on your seat, but the door buzzer could be the door push button having dirty or bad connection. Had something similar on mine a couple of years ago. Just needed the crimps remaking.

The buzzer buzzes as I turn the ignition off and stays buzzing until I remove the key form the ignition, the interior lights work as expected - so I don't think its as simple as that - nice if it was.

My door open buzzer is not operating correctly and my car seat doesn't move (see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1218457248).  I traced the seat cable into the front footwell side covers and I then lose it somewhere behind the dash.  I've looked behind the relays and the fuses but can't see much there.

I looked at EPC but that didn't help me (not sure how I shoudl drive it to get what I want).

There must be something that controls the buzzer and the seat - I can't fathom which though!

Any suggestions appreciated.
