passenger window part 2
« on: 29 December 2011, 21:28:34 »

evening all,
i recently posted for help regarding my passenger window would not work unless the door was open.... now i think i know why the switch was disconnected in the first place.. ??? it was to stop the window being in the lowered position and then closing the door..theres a lot of resistance when i try and close the door with the window down... this led me to have a look, forgive me i dont what its called, theres the two door hinges.. top and bottom, the bit in the middle ::) the bar that stops the door from swinging out too far.. that peice has sheered off from inside the door.. hence when i try and close the door this bar is forced into the wrong postion.. ???
now what to do about the said piece... remove it.. if so how ??? or repair it..? again how.
what a nightmare :(

Sounds like you are describing the door strap .. which usually fails on the front doors .. probably as they get more use !!

There is this write up which "might" help ??

although it sounds like you need a complete new strap ....

As you say, the door check stops the door from opening too far, without it in place you risk bending the hinges or damaging the door skin or front wing.

You should be able to source a replacement from a scrap yard or from the Wanted section on this Forum but usually it's the door that is damaged, it should be possible to weld a plate to the door to fix...
