General Car Chat / Might have to sell the Omega soon...
« on: 01 March 2013, 19:07:17 »
Missus wants another child and TBH so do I. This will be no.4 which means bye bye Omega in around 9 months time. Shame, as I spend poo loads getting the Omega sorted. Looks like my Omega replacement will not be a VXR8, Monaro or a Phaeton but a Zafira  :'(

Unless someone can covert an Elite Estate into a 6 seater  ;D

Today it reached 50k. It's downhill from here  ::)

A nice person has scuffed my front bumper and done a runner. Is there anyone on OOF that can repair/respray it?

Also a nice petrol shop attendant put a 12" scratch on the boot lid. Might as well get that sorted at the same time. Will post pics when the missus allows me to use HER laptop.  ::)

General Car Chat / WIM and off centre steering wheel
« on: 02 February 2013, 19:07:22 »
Tony himself set up the car so obviously done correctly but car is not driving straight. It needs a fair bit of correction and wheel is off centre which is annoying.

If I'm honest it drives no better than before.  :-\

Maybe I had too high expectations

General Car Chat / rear jacking point
« on: 02 February 2013, 16:45:40 »
My rear arches are covered in mud after I went off roading during my visit to WIM today. Need to jack the rear a little to wash away the crud. In the past I have used the triangle cover of the donut bushes.

Now with new bushes and setup I want to double check its ok to do this.

pS. I have an off centre steering wheel  :-\

Thanks to Mr Gixer for fitting my wishbones and rear bushes in the freezing cold while I was sitting in front of the heater sipping the tea Mrs Gixer had made me. Thanks to Mrs Gixer for the tea and offering me food  :y

Initial impressions of the rear bushes are good, much less flex and body roll especially noticable in fast corners and big roundabouts. Slight downside I would say is the changes in road surfaces is more noticable and door pins rattles and other vibrations in cabin bit more noticable (for me anyway, because I never have the radio on) due to the slightly stiffer ride but a good compromise. Gets a  :y from me.

Looking forward to WIM and getting new tyres next week, but not looking forward to receiving the bank statement  :(

General Car Chat / I love my car a bit more today
« on: 05 January 2013, 20:04:47 »
Finally cured that gearbox/lever squeak. The culprit was the bottom of the small lever was rubbing on the metal gear steps (under the gaitor). Now I need to sort out the rear seat squeak. How does the rear seat come off again?  :y

General Car Chat / parking in a puddle
« on: 25 December 2012, 08:31:01 »
People round here often use other cars bumpers as an indicatior when parking. All my cars suffered. To avoid this, I park on a single space but this means front o/s left in a puddle of 2-3" of water.  Sometimes for upto a week.  :-\

Can't be good can it? Is this what is causing my vibration?

Omega General Help / rumble at 20-50mph
« on: 23 December 2012, 23:35:50 »
 :(

Car used to rumble/vibrate at 40-50mph when lifting off the throttle but now it is constantly there between 20-50mph and there is a steering wheel wobble when braking from high(ish) speed, discs are 6 month old GM with OE pads. It needs wishbones and tyres, will get round to doing those when the poly doughnuts arrive. In the meantime, just wondering if it can be anything else?

General Car Chat / Torque wrench question
« on: 18 December 2012, 10:38:47 »
There is a small hole on the side of my torque wrench which is plugged off with a small cap. What's the purpose for this hole? I seem to be missing both caps after lending out my wrenches. Am I worrying about a non issue?

Omega General Help / rear seat creak
« on: 08 December 2012, 16:08:28 »
I have this really annoying creaky sound coming from the rear seats or at least that's what it sounds like. I searched the forum and found there was a bulletin for this which requires some metal bending. Can any tell me how to remove the rear seat to get to the metal and how to bend the metal.

This and other interior rattles are driving me crazy !

General Car Chat / VX Astra H oil leak
« on: 08 December 2012, 14:56:28 »
Had a peek under my brothers Astra H today and noticed a puddle of oil around the airbox tube which sits above the engine. The oil is black as a moon less night and will be changed in due course. I have a picture but am not able to post it currently.

General Car Chat / Is it only me or?
« on: 03 December 2012, 16:34:35 »
Does jacking up the car terrify you? I bought a 3 ton clark jack two weeks ago and when I jack up the jack I keep thinking it will drop the car and when jacked up high enough to get stands underneath, I feel it will tip the car on its side (silly I know  :-[) Also when the jack moves towards as if lifts does the car move with it?  :D

I needs some jacking confidence  ::)

Omega General Help / mayonnaise in oil cap question
« on: 02 December 2012, 14:37:57 »
After the work carried out yesterday, oil and sump change, today I noticed mayonnaise in my oil cap which I have never experienced with this car before. What could cause this?

Could it be down to not letting the silicone fully go off before filling with oil? I noticed a bit of oil and a soft silicone in one area. Can't tell if its leaking though

Omega General Help / Oil sump gasket
« on: 30 November 2012, 18:03:08 »
Received my sump yesterday from andyc but there wasn't a gasket (only silicone) which I'm sure is correct but can someone confirm? andyc was not available today for comment  ;D

The tube of silicone is half the size of your reglular bathroom sealant so wondering if I need to use it all? How long should I leave the silicone to cure before filling with oil? Will the excess silicone on the inside of the pan cause a problem when mixed with oil? How much should I torque the sump bolts?

Thanks
