Not oil cooler
« on: 26 June 2007, 11:52:48 »

Now i have some dry weather for a few hours ( hopefully ) i have managed to be able to look under the bonnet of the project car. God knows how it was diagnosed as oil cooler as the header tank is squeeky clean although the level is low. The dipstick has no signs of water, nor does the oil cap, not a hint of white anywhere . The car was running like a bag of sh/t when i loaded it on the trailer and now the battery is flat so its battery charge time and start from scratch :-/

So what were the symptoms as advertised?

Thats what i was thinking, with the coolant being low, i wonder if it has a dodgy HBV which has fooked the dispack

Advertised as HG failure ::) i asked a few questions and they didn't really know what they were talking about, just mentioned stuff coming out of header tank so i assumed oil cooler :-/

Maybe it is then  :-/ or coolant over pressurising for another reason and the 'stuff' was steam  :question

Battery charged over night, put on this morning, filled coolent tank and fired her up, started first time on six, ran for about 5 mins no probs ( a bit lumpy ), then EML came on and it dropped to 4 or 5, burping, coughing, spluttering. Residue now forming on oil filler cap, also fumes now coming out once cap removed, removed dipstick, oil still clean but again fumes from tube :question Its either breathing very heavy or its steam :question. Ran up to temperature and there seems to be no over pressurization of cooling system although i havn't taken it for a run.

Fault codes are 12 & 31 as expected and also 17 & 144.

Any thoughts :question

Hmmm...knock sensor failure/fault on 2-4-6 bank.....

Can you do a compression test on that bank and look at the plugs whilst at i (see if any are getting steam cleaned)
