Maintenance Guides / Headlight Cluster Lamp Replacement Guide
« on: 28 October 2007, 09:51:29 »
Tools required: Small flat bladed screwdriver & 2 Credit Cards - best to use old/free cards as they may get damaged. I used some readily available from Texaco ;)

Simply slide the cards down either side of the rotary switch to disable the locking pins...

Pull/prise the entire housing forward and remove...

Bulb is located via the back and is removed with a small flat screwdriver, this is the grey piece in the pic ...

Once unlocked the bulb will simply fall out ...

Bulb markings are : ALBA 12V 0.5W

To refit, simply replace the new bulb and slide the housing back into it's holder.  :)

Maintenance Guides / Guide for Safe Audio
« on: 23 July 2007, 21:42:26 »
To reset an audio system that displays the legend SAFE

You will need your radio code from your Car Pass and your car keys.

Turn the ignition off.

Press an hold the AS button and turn the ignition back on - keep the button pressed in until you hear a beep after a few seconds.

The display will then read 10  . . . .

Press 1 until the first number of your code appears in the display, ie 10   5 . . .

Press 2 until the next number appears, ie 10   5 6 . .

Repeat with buttons 3 and 4 until your display has the correct code showing.

Then press and hold the AS button again until you hear another beep and your radio will come back to life. :)

If the display changes to 9    . . . . then you have input the wrong code and should try again, if it's still not working consult your Vx Dealer to check the info on the car pass belongs to your car.

I've recently taken ownership of a new rear view mirror from the Twins but I'm not sure how to wire it in.

I know there are only 3 or 4 key wires for the auto dimming mirror but my short length of loom has 11  :o

Which colours should be connected where?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / No internal lighting
« on: 03 January 2009, 20:32:35 »
Some time ago I broke the boot light cover, and then the glove box light whilst trying to fix the boot!

Since then I've lost all internal lighting inc, map lights, visor lights, kerb lights, boot, glove box and 12v supply to rear power socket.

Played around with a few of the fuses and all seem ok.

Ideas?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CDR 2005 on/off
« on: 06 January 2007, 23:06:28 »
The manual ability to switch on/off has stopped working.

Not a huge issue as it works fine via the ignition on/off but Idon't like to leave the keys in just to leave the radio on for the kids when I nip in the chippy.

Any thoughts?

Omega General Help / New MAF doesn't work
« on: 09 January 2007, 20:16:18 »
New MAF arrived today  :)http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200036445727&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=010

Slipped it in and took it for a run - but its worse than before - horrid flat spot when the pedal is floored at 50 and idle seems too low at 600rpm (but smooth at standstill) :(

Now the question is do I tell the guy it's faulty and I want another or tell him I havn't fitted it but the part numbers seem different  - cos no refunds if fitted. :-/

Old unit has the following markings: Siemens 5WK9606  90530463 >PBT - GF30<
& new one is.............................................RF5WK9641  .............. >PBT - GF30<

Omega General Help / HBV in a 4 pot
« on: 31 May 2009, 21:15:37 »
My HBV gave up this weekend and I've read the huide for a V6 but I reckon it could be done from below with the wheel off on my 2.2 without the need to dismantle the scuttle etc.

Is it possible?

Omega General Help / Rear Coil Springs - upgrade to heavy duty?
« on: 23 March 2009, 20:16:08 »
Ongoing saga with my springs............

Since the garage changed my springs last year my car sits 25mm low at the back and consequently 25mm high at the front.

I've just been under and the replacement ones fitted are KYB - albeit they are fitted upside down.  ::)

They've ordered in some more for this Thursday and some heavy duty ones from both KYB.

They were originally ordered from the reg no - should I switch makes or try the heavy duty ones?   :-?

My car has a reg that was on my former 2.0 GLS - could it be it's picked up the wrong details?  Are the springs that different?

Omega General Help / Rear Coil Springs - Where to buy?
« on: 05 March 2009, 20:37:14 »
Last year local garage fitted 2 rear springs after the tails snapped and were picked up at MOT time.

Trouble is they are crap.  The car sits 20mm low at the back and 20mm high at the front which has led to tyre issues recently.

So, the cheapo's he fitted are gonna have to go - but other than Vx at £200+ what/who would you recommend?

(2003, 2.2 saloon, standard suspension)

Omega General Help / Ride height 2.2
« on: 25 January 2009, 21:45:05 »
I had some new aftermarket rear coil springs fitted last year and my rear tyres have "deformed".

Both outer shoulders are full of tread but the centre section has worn out - akin to over inflation - and I'm not sure if it's because the replacements aren't suitable or the combination of broken springs and worn dampers were the cause.

One tyre has actually split vertically under the pressure - apparently :-/

The new springs sit lower on the back than before but the garage that fit them recons they are ok.

Can any 2.2 owner measure the height from floor to the highest point of the wheel arch at the front and rear for me as a comparison.

Cheers  :y

Omega General Help / My arse is on fire !!
« on: 03 January 2009, 12:18:27 »
The foam around the wire on my seat has worn/burned away and now only the cloth is between my arse and the hot wire. It's like sitting on a toaster!  :'(

Is it repairable or is it the end for toasty legs for me?

Omega General Help / Which relay?
« on: 18 November 2008, 21:54:27 »
I still have no interior lights and wonder now if the relay is buggered.

Which one serves the interior lights, door lamps, and rear 12v socket & where is it located.

I know it's not the big black one that operates the hazzards if that helps at all.

TIA :y

Omega General Help / Brake Pads
« on: 04 November 2008, 20:30:20 »
After 65000 miles my "brake pad" light is finally on - I thought it was broken  ;)

I bought fluid, pads and a new sensor 12m ago but have never got round to fitting them.  :-[

If I decide to be lazy and get a garage to bleed the system and slip the new front's in at the same time, cos it's getting cold now  8-) will I need to change the rears too?

I know I can just look at the wear, but if the general rule is yes, then I'll pick up another set of Vx pads before I (or the nice man who want's to earn a few quid) takes the wheels off.

Your wise replies welcome  :y

Omega General Help / Which fuse??
« on: 09 October 2008, 20:20:07 »
Some time ago I broke the boot lamp, tried to swap out the one from the glove box and ended up breaking that one too  :'(

Anyhoo, Markie helped me out with a new one and I glued one of the others back to life but ALL the interior lights are off line.

These include sun visor lamps, door parking lamps, boot, dash, interior lamp front and rears and the rear power socket.

When I checked the obvious fuses and they all seem fine and just resulted in my having to recode the radio  >:( But then the guide has no 6, 12 and 15 all connected to the radio??

So which one is goosed?? or could it be a relay  :-/

Cruise, dash lamps, heated seats, mirrors all still work.
