TPMS are a pain in the arse.

Hate them. Just a shit load of random faults that don't actually exist.

I have tried to switch mine off but apparently TPMS is part of the MOT. :-\

Thanks for the constructive help  :y

TPMS checks were added to the MOT test checklist in January 2015 and it is now an instant MOT fail if the TPMS dashboard light is displayed for a fault or a problem with the TPMS valves is discovered. Many motorists don’t realise this which has led to thousands of new MOT failures that could have been easily avoided.

Mrs builder's TPMS (aftermarket kit) have lasted 18 months or so
but they are easy to change the batteries in anyway
the OEM ones i imagine have to be removed as a valve from inside , break the bead  :-\

4 years is the best I can get from the astra k forum, but they're definitely not as technical on there as here. Wife's car is around 39 months old, so we'll see. TBH, it's not something I'd given much thought to, but I followed a link and came across an article on TPMS in general, nothing Vx specific.

sensors are about £15 = 20 a corner looking on ebay
then you will need a tyre machine, bead breaker ,wheel balance machine etc £10,000 should cover it
then need them reprogrammed /synced

ask spiderman garage how much they charge
ask price first and take Vaseline this time   :y

That looks easy, I'd easily do all four in a week.

This one would be a job for Vauxhall. I wonder how many people will be caught unawares, as I would but for a blunder onto the web page.

I still visually inspect Mrs Builder's tyres for condition etc even with TPMS  but think it is a good system
I see a lot of cars driving round with near flat tyres
but even if you have TPMS ,you need to act when the light comes on , i suspect many don't  ;D
Mts Builder's TPMS makes an annoying noise that can't be ignored .....
"Dave, my TPMS alarm is going off "  ;D :D

My TPMS is the more simple ABS based version .... no batteries required  ;)

Wifey's TPMS alarm hasn't never gone off. It's only a button press to show you the pressure in all four tyres, and I make sure they're correct.

The Audi has TPMS based on wheel rotation speed, but as I purchased a full car + caravan set when I had the omega I still use the pressure based system from tyrepal ... as it does car and caravan ....  and it has proved to be far more accurate than the audi system  :) batteries in the "senders" last about 2 years and take less then 5 minutes to change   :)

The 'rolling radius' or ABS system allows for tyre wear, so has quite a generous margin. It's primary purpose is to warn of a sudden or significant change in pressure against an datum of all four wheels.

It costs manufacturers nothing to 'fit' to the existing ABS ecu... Not that this stops them from charging a £500+ option tax on it ::)
