Auto Box Park
« on: 15 September 2019, 16:36:33 »

Hello all with my Omega Auto box in park the car still rolls forward surely the gearbox should lock it up.
I looked in the owners handbook and it says the front wheels should lock when in park, they must surely mean the back wheels?
Either way mine is not working hence why I did the handbrake adjustment.
Is this normal?

I reckon 'Paul' (pawl) must be on strike then as he is not locking my wheels, would low oil level cause this as I have had a leak.

Im pretty sure the only thing that could cause this is if the locking pawl has broken off. If its floating around inside the box, start ooking for another box or car.

When you say rolls forward, do you mean it will continue to roll or roll slightly before coming to a sudden stop  :-\

No, the pawl is like a metal key that snaps off if abused
so use your handbrake ,even if your park pawl was working use the handbrake
if you don't it will seize up

No, the pawl is like a metal key that snaps off if abused .....
but they will take some abuse before breaking

so use your handbrake ,even if your park pawl was working use the handbrake
if you don't it will seize up
so people say, but my hand/paring brake has really only been used for MOTs  ;) and I've yet to have one seize on my autos.  ::)

It's another level of safety
like turning your wheel into the curb on a hill
Plus the OP's park pawl sounds shagged, so he needs to use the handbrake always  :D
