Getting too old for simple jobs.
« on: 13 February 2019, 10:09:00 »

To service the parking brake mechanism on my Merc.

Pop the rear seat cushion, remove plate (3 bolts) and bingo there it is.

Spent on and off 2 hours trying to remove the rear seat cushion, gave up in the end.

We're certainly not getting any younger, and I suspect most of the contingent on here have a free bus pass or are getting close to getting one  (especially with a love of old Vauxhalls or even just a passing interest).

Some jobs we wouldn't have thought twice about doing a few years ago.... but I'm not as flexible as I used to be. Yesterday was a good example of getting the exhaust monkeys to replace a cat-back system on the Omega. Yes I could have done it on the driveway in the freezing cold with just hand tools and my eyes full of rusty deposits and having to jack the car high enough to get my bulk under there.

Easy option and a couple of hundred quid lighter methinks.... might have been a different situation in the height of summer, but don't think the system would hold together for another few months, and I have to admit to being a fair weather enthusiast!

I am painfully aware of the fact that I can only do a fraction of what I once could. There has been a dramatic decline even  within the last five years or so.
Hence I always have a to do list for my cars that never gets cleared. This annoys me greatly, even though its non urgent work.  :(

I've followed Haynes + videos on the net, all looks simple, but can't get mine to budge.

Thanks anyway.

It took me twice as long to change the wheels on the BMW as it would have done a decade ago, and I'm not even that old!

I didn't fancy crawling under the Vulva to change the lubricant, so got the local ATS to do that, as well as the fuel filter because that's underneath as well.  ::)

I did change the air filter and pollen filter all by myself though.  :y  ;D

I still enjoy it when I find the time/ weather/ energy to do it. When I have to stop I will feel (even more) completely old and useless.
I will then have to settle for a small tedious recycled washing machine. ::)
Thankfully, Im not quite there yet.
