Omega General Help / Re: Speedo and rev counter not working
« on: 25 December 2023, 20:06:24 »
the issue which affected mine also killed the fuel and temp guages . the speedo and tacho froze at any given position. swapping the cluster did solve the issue BUT i slso wanted to mend the fault on the original cluster and refit it . i found the fault on mine was the double layer pcb board linking eyelets failing fue to the immense geat that the area behind the cluster attracts !
if you can remove this yourself you may find that a few of them are noticeably black / burnt. you can then link them out yourself if you are able to . its not too micro surgery but can be done easily.
or send it off to a repair place and hope they find / fix them

no doubt there are not many left of your spec and it is indeed a fine example but other car wise i wouldnt rely on that particular site for any form of accuraccy. it list models in a strange way ,sometimes models that dont even exist !

Omega General Help / Re: wet in boot

i would take the light out and add a little black silicone to seal. the original rubber strip around it is not the most long lasting item !
hopefully you have found it

cant comment on other people or where suppliers have stored stuff but all my vulnerable spares are stored in my house in a sensible place (cupboard, under bed etc)rather than a cold garage/shed. this should help a little.

mine has the bungs with the centre hole in ( moulded not drilled !) also had some water in hence needed seam replacing on one side .
as mentioned you will need to get in boot and have someone hosepipe you. not nesesarrily at full pressure either. check seal edges, light clusters, grommet for wiring ,body seams and also the double skinned area of metal just below the bottom of the screen. in the corners.
water leaks are a bugger to find and dont be suprised if you sit there for ages and dont see a drop !

agree with the above comments. its hard to find a modern replacement for an omega that will be anywhere near as good.
AND as ive said many times. these cars dont rust that badly COMPARED to cars from the 60's or 70's and it would take a lot ' rust wise' to write one off IF  YOU can do the repairs yourself or know a mate who can help you .
obviously if you were to pay a garage or restorer to do the work then things can get expensive these days as trade prices for anything now is ridiculous.
what needs doing ?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Radio on, no sound
« on: 08 December 2023, 17:35:58 »
we had an old basic car radio sat on the shelf in our workshop  for years. never an issue.always worked fine .
lads decided it was time to go dab so brought in one.
takes ages to lock on to a station. sounds like a dalek most of the time !
same as digital tv reception. anywhere with less than perfect signal strength you get breaking up and blocking . old analogue always worked fine .
technogy advances are not always better and not always done for any other reason than getting one up on other manufacturers.
for example (and one of my major issues )with all this is.......
they make computers/ phones etc etc that can do virtually everything nowadays, advances in technology as far as you can imaging BUT why not actuall get the basics working right first. calls that dont connect, calls that break up,video calls etc that break up,freeze ,

I've still got four of the AC Delco 3.0 kits which came up for sale at silly money.....think I bought eight in total, so that they could be robbed to make up kits for the 3.2's. ;)

yes me too.
they were very cheap at the time. i got 6 .used 2 so ok for a fair few years yet at the mileage i do !
the offset pulley still works fine on a later engine although the shaft can be swapped over to a new bearing anyway.

thats why i always try  to fix the original oem radios. in most cars aftermarket ones (although probably technically better / not always have more features if you want that sort of thing, some not nescessarry realy) sometimes just dont look right in an older car and i think this applies in the omega too. the original unit was perfectly capable and matched the dash perfectly.
my opinion only of course !

yes i would say thats the next step . if its inteemittent its harder but if it now has no sound permanently then remove the radio and get a multimeter on the speaker connector. due to the wire lengths and front tweeters coupled to the front door speajers you may not get a perfect identical resistance from all 4 circuits but an open or shortshould be obvious. (or ask installer to check ? )

take it back to them and get them to check their work.
but
cannot see any chance all 4 speakers would fail so are you 100% sure there is nothing in the speaker line that cuts them such as a phone system or something ? ? as i mentioned before ? anything that would mute all 4 speakers plus the tweeters ?
