Believe QH ones still obtainable - around £35 - try motor factors Jaime ;)

Put a QH one on the 2.5 and all good so far even though it had a plastic impeller  :y
Since they went bust, and are just now a trading name of someone else, the quality of some of their components have taken a nosedive.  Whats the waterpump like?

V6 is preventative :y

but unnecessary  ;)
It probably is.  I didn't change this one last year (which was the 2nd cambelt since changing) thinking it should be OK, but obviously its failed now.

Obviously not every one will fail, but it seems they are rare to fail before 80k, and far more likely after. Understandably I guess.

I'm sure some will last the life of the car. I'm sure some cambelts and tensioners would as well, but the more you use them, the more likely they will fail.

Difficult one to recommend.

I seem to recall that euro crap parts sell the KWP water pumps which are good with metal impellers.

Its long been a suspicion of mine that they are one of the OE suppliers to Vx for these parts.

If it's of any interest relating to pattern parts from ECP....

I purchased a new stat with housing and seal. It had the GM ground off and the part numbers matched the removed OE one.

The make was Wahler.

Get the SKF aux kit  :y

That's the route I'm taking.  :y
Mine is due a cambelt so I'll get the kit with the water pump in if I can.

I thought you only needed to change the water pump, when you do the belt, on a 4 pot....... :-\ :-\

Correct, but as Al said, preventative. Mine's at 79K and I do less than 4K a year in that car so I figure that I may as well change the pump when I do the belt.  :y I certainly didn't bother when I did the first belt at 40K.  :y
The decision to change it now may backfire on me but that's an unknown at the moment.  :-\

When I popped the belt off mine it was wobbling around all over the place  - I did manage to do it with the Cambelt cover in place though (carefully!)  :y

Is it fair to say its best to remove cambelt, rather than soak it in GM's finest coolant?

It seemed good to be honest - only reservation was the plastic impella, but looking around I notice a lot of water pump seem to have gone that way. Its certainly working well at this time and for the price and given its a quick easy change I'm happy.

I'll dig out some pictures.

The pump had sprung a signifgant leak at the time so was too late for that - advise here seemed to be rinse well with clean water and move on. So far, so good although if the belt snaps I'll regret it clearly!

Did mine with the full cam-belt kit at 80k. From memory it wasn't much more in price so figured better safe than sorry. Mind you,  I do the cam-belt every 40k together with tensioners so I may be a little over cautious.
