Congrats on the new car Jimmy, before everyone takes the shine off by saying the batteries will die in 5 minutes, it'll never go as far as you need it to and .. oh .. I'm too late already ;) ;D

Just need someone to man-maths that you'd spend less by running a £500 Omega and we've got all possible responses in just an hour! ;D

Given that high miles, I would be very tempted to do bangers on a budget.

Buy a £500 car, with long MOT. Apart from ensuring tyres/brakes are good, do absolutely nothing to it maintenance wise. Keep driving it until it blows up, then just buy another.

I think the point of the exercise for Jimmy is to have a modern, reliable, green car that will cost no more than his old, maintenance hungry, thirsty one. A banger on a budget would cost the same as the milk float once fuel and fixing are taken into consideration.
Plus...a petrol that is LPG'd would still not get the mileage his soot chucker did, so discount that.

Plus, when it comes down to it, which one would you rather have sitting outside your house?

Oh agree, I'd have something newer, as I know myself, time to tinker is rare. I'd try it for a while though, see if it worked as long as the banger worked and passed an MOT.

Just awaiting authority to order the F-Paces replacement
Hang on, at max, you've only used it 6 days....

Odo currently shows 1380 miles.....it arrived with 100 on  ???
If you're going to Gaytown every day, that's gotta be 600-700 miles a week?

700 miles, takes me about 1hr 20 mins each way  :y

Tunnie: I do, about 28k, but it's 99% made up of a commute that's 75miles each way with charging at both ends (and the work end is free). Longest journey is 110 each way with plenty of rapid chargers enroute. So even in the dead of winter the worst it would need is literally a 5 minutes rapid charge while I grab a coffee.

Stemo: it's £440 pcm on my work scheme (fully maintained). So when you work it out I'll be spending about £9/week more than the Volvo, assuming that petrol and energy prices stay constant, I work on it myself and nothing beyond regular service items goes wrong. In other words, it'll end up costing me less.

There are charging points at work as well, but only a handful.  :(

Sounds like it would work well, my commute is 25 miles each way, so in theory milk floats could work for me.

Be interesting to see how you get on  :y

What are you going to do with the Volvo?

E-Golf uses the euro type charging points, not the common ones you see around the UK at the moment (of the type that fits the Leaf etc) but, they will arrive over time.

Our test track guys recon the are good for about 150 miles but a bit on the slow side for an EV (but they do mostly taz around in Teslas and I-Paces)

Is any software development done at Gaydon?

The mobile apps for the cars, are they outsourced? I know for Aston Martin, they don't do any on site, all outsourced. Gutted, as I know someone who works there and they can easily access Aston's for weekend fun.

For your car how do costs work out, do you just pay for fuel plus monthly car cost?

Jealous. Well, not because I only need to do the office one day a week, but my similar distance commute takes ~2hrs in the morning and 2.5-3hrs in the evening!

Don't do it, Mark! If you leave Sky, how will we get our cheap TV deals? ;)  :)

I'd never leave by choice  ;)  :y

Been here 9 years this September  :o

Depends what ComCast do if they win this bidding war, I have a nasty feeling they may transfer bulks of software engineering elsewhere. American companies tend to favour outsourcing, preferring quantity over quality. I'm hoping Uncle Rupert wins!

They do software here but, you need leadership grade to get cars and its a just add fuel deal.

Sweet. So when are you ordering the F-Type?  :D

Do Scrum Masters/Development Managers get classed as "Leadership"?
