Just got home. Pulled the handbrake up, heard a clunk and then it seemed to lose all resistance. Probably a broken cable, r something pulled through the backplate.

The cable outer ends pull through the 'clamp' they sit in because both bits are rusty. Adjusting the handbrake so it actually does something exacerbates this.

A new cable isn't expensive, nor is it hard to fit if you're not worried about putting the exhaust heat shields back.

DAMHIK ;D

The cigar goes to NickW.  :y Cleaned the crustiness off the end of the cable and the clamp until they were nice and shiny. Then bent the clamp around the end of the cable a bit more to get it nice and tight again. Job jobbed.  :y

As I haven't used the V70 for a couple of weeks I had to jump start it with a spare battery.  ::)

I should have pulled the battery out and charged it properly, but couldn't be arsed and took it for a quick spin instead.  :P

That's the correct way to do it. Once you get past 30 years old, CBA is something you have to live with....so embrace it.  :y

Cant decide which way I want to go with rear springs but MOT runs out Tuesday and two broken springs is an instant failure.
Decided to put the KYB springs back on that were on the car when I first got it. They are about 280mm high, for some unkown reasin and mean the rear of the car sits quite a bit higher than it should.
I will leave them on through the winter while I make up my mind what to replace them with, then change them again next spring / summer.  ::)

MV6 LSC are -15mm from standard, but the aftermarket 'standard' springs do vary.

Uncompressed spring length and ride height aren't directly related  ;)

Of course I know the mv6 rides a little lower and spring rates are different I meant how much higher is his car than normal

Havent measured it yet, but I would guess 25 - 30 mm higher than normal. Not ideal and not permanent, but better than having it dragging its arse everywhere as it has been recently.

Could you measure the clearance for me as mine seems to be a bit low Tow bar catching sometimes but my springs aren’t broken

Didnt think mine were either until I shone a torch right up the top of them and saw approx 2cm missing off the end of each one.
Might take it to work Saturday, if I remember, where its nice and flat / level and then measure it

Actually got a chance to have a quick measure this morning as I was parked on reasonably level ground while swmbo went for a hospital appointment.
Both fronts from the ground to the centre of the bottom of the wheelarch measured 672mm. And the rears measured 677mm.
Cant remember what the accepted standard figure is. 660 maybe ?

670 rings a bell. Estate rears might be a touch higher ;)
