Omega General Help / Re: Coolant Tank only stays half full
« on: 23 November 2019, 18:18:54 »
Thank you. I will check as per the suggestions. I have previously replaced and worked on the HBV on my previous car(s). These have usually failed going from bad to worse to a flood.

My curiosity is why the plastic tank will stabilize at half full! Perhaps the cap is only allowing pressure buildup to half tankful of air versus much less air space and greater pressure if it were to hold up to the recommended mark filling of the plastic tank. I think I am going to try Diamond Black Geezer's suggestion that,

"but first port of call may well be... the cap. Yellow header tank cap are often found to have leaky seals, and a tenner could be a cheap fix."

I will definitely post back if it helps someone else.

Thanks.

Omega General Help / Coolant Tank only stays half full
« on: 23 November 2019, 16:33:54 »
I have filled/topped up my coolant reservoir a few times. I don't know why it always wants to settle down to half full and no warning lights, etc. My gut feeling is that there is perhaps a leak in the plastic but there are no apparent tell tale marks of that.

There are no discernible leaks noted under the car or the driveway.

Any suggestions or thoughts appreciated.

I have noticeable howling/whining noise between 90-110 Km/h. It goes away at 120 km/h. The noise is more when I put my foot to the gas/petrol pedal and significantly alters as I press the foot on/off. It also appears to vary from left to right rear when going around a slight bend at those speeds.

I have read various previous posts but can't figure it out.

Thanks for the help.

Omega General Help / Fuel Tank Rust
« on: 07 October 2019, 08:43:30 »
I have the Omega X30XE Saloon equivalent (Cadillac Catera 2001). I noticed quite a bit of rust on the underbody of the fuel/petrol tank. Are these tank internally plastic shell or it is all metal? Could it rust through and start leaking? I am not a mechanic and at times am quite novice on these issues.

Regards.

Omega General Help / Re: Sticky Rev Counter
« on: 01 August 2019, 17:38:11 »
From what I remember, my demised vehicle had similar issues but included the speedometer also acting up. In that case the best answer that I found but never implemented was that it is the ABS module that requires repair. Also need to check the sensor which provides the rev information. In my case the sensor for rear wheel driven Catera (equivalent to Omega Saloon) it was located around the differential.

The rev information apparently was processed via the ABS module in my case. Hence the involvement of the ABS module in the symptoms.

Hope it gives some ideas.

If it helps any one with Omega Saloon, etc., there has been extensive well researched effort made by a poster on Cadillac Catera (equivalent to X30XE Omega Saloon) as follows,

I believe for me the closest to the MA825 is the Australian shock Monroe MG118. The MG118 are within 1/4" of the MA825 in extended and compressed specification. I believe the mountings are correct too based on the visual. These are available on eBay below,

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HOLDEN-COMMODORE-VT-VX-VY-V6-V8-SEDAN-MONROE-REAR-AIR-SHOCK-ABSORBER/181122802977

EXT. L   COM. L   D. SHIELD     MOUNTINGS
                                         Top   Btm
662mm    385m       NO             S    FS
(26.1")   (15.2")

So if it helps, these may fit the Omega Saloons with self leveling too.

Doctor, are the ones from Australia the same spec as Monroe 825.

PART MOUNTING    LENGTHS UNIT PARTS
NO.   Upper Lower  Comp. Ext.      Trav.

MA825 S1 SPEC    15.000"  25.750" 10.750"

I have used the MA825 in the past on my Cadillac Catera. I have switched to Sachs fixed but would not mind going back to Self-leveling if fair price sourced. Believe it or not my car (Cadillac Catera) is only been driven 109,000 km. Body in pretty good shape too.

Thank you.

I don't know why you have issues paint matching. There are outfits which can create spray cans for your paint code.

I am in Canada and the following folks here create spray cans with incredible matching accuracy. I have tried it on a Nissan, Toyota and Catera (your Omega B) here with fantastic results. I am not sure if they will post you a can or too that you require. They are very good people.

Just sharing if as a long shot it could help.

Omega General Help / Re: Can belt urgent help please
« on: 31 August 2018, 19:00:45 »
Listen to TheBoy for definitive guidance. But I believe you need to loosen the water pump part of the tool and ensure the semicircular part makes complete contact with the water pump spindle curved part first and then the flat part. Ensure a very tight fit with the circular part and ensuring zero play in this contact. Then the flat to flat contact. Then tighten plus test for any play by trying to move water pump spindle with hand. That should ensure that crank cannot move and/or things get out of alignment with the cams. Just some thoughts. Good luck.

I have not used the following but perhaps it is of use to follow up with them;

https://www.sparepartstore24.co.uk/opel-spares/omega-b-25-26-27/3861/10213/coil-springs

The above is for the Saloon X30XE but you can make your own slection.

Good luck and appreciate any updates as I may need the same stuff in the future.

Omega General Help / Re: Removing foam from scuttle
« on: 26 August 2018, 21:23:34 »
Thanks lads
I think I'll leave that foam/padding in place and just do the wiper arm holes. The rubber strip at the bottom of the windscreen is indeed a little loose so will get to work on that as well.

 :y
That is your issue. No need to seal anywhere else. Just get the seal back on the screen properly :)
TheBoy thanks for all your helpful information as I used it to reseat my heater supply pipes with funny connectors with locking rings. Back to this thread, I noticed that my rubber strip was totally off. Just hanging lose with water ingressing to the area where scuttle is secured with clips. This is a car I bought used recently and appears to have been provided shoddy maintenance. The situation where scuttle is secured with plastic clips is so bad that the metal that the scuttle gets secured to is almost crumbling with rust. I resealed the rubber strip to be water secure  and will ollk after the rsut later on. There are suggestion sthat one should fill holes where wipers are connected with vaseline. Is it necessary or the rubber strip is the main culprit? Here in Canada with heat, rain and later winter, I don't think vaseline is going to sustain. I appreciate your observations and suggestions. Thank you.
