Title: bogus phone call
Post by: raywilb on 14 November 2017, 13:54:24
I have just had a call from a mobile No telling me that the H.M.R.C are suing me for tax owed. the call told me to press 1 to speak to whomever . I suspect an attempt of a scam.

Oh yes, I am sure it is! :D

The HMRC would ALWAYS inform you of such a decision by post, with all the details attached.

I doubt he actually spoke to anyone. These kinds of calls go dead line if you pick up. The whole idea is to get you to press 1, that way you have no idea who you you are speaking to.

Did you get a number? If you did, and enter it into Google, you will find that it is one of many known to be scammers, after your details. I get lots of them on my cellphone and never respond to any whose number I don't recognise.

Ron.

It's still quite satisfying telling a machine to opps off!  ;D

Yes, Ron, some folk do seem to be plagued by these calls. Personally, I get very few and don’t think I’ve had one for at least a year.

HMRC would send you a letter/bill telling you how much they figure you owe them and notifying you that interest is mounting at a daily rate on any amount owing. They wouldn't phone you and certainly not off a mobile number.

I love bogus calls, ppi sales, accident management company, hours of endless fun running them ragged, and giving fake details...

I seem to be plagued by "you've had a car crash" calls. They must've bee talking about my old Astra that I crashed in 2003 as I haven't had accident since  ::)

They get the standard response:

"Yes I was rammed so hard from behind I'm now struggling to walk".
