Trolley Jack Recommendation
« on: 15 June 2009, 13:58:44 »

I've been looking at machinemart and there is a 2 ton (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-2-tonne-trolley-jack-ctj2001g) jack with what looks like a broader chassis and a 3 ton model (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/ctj3000ql-3-tonne-quick-lift-trolley-j/brand/clarke)
Any recommendations as to which is going to be better would be appreciated. Also any tips on whether to get some axle stands also?

There is a 3 ton version of the 2 ton you have posted
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/ctj3000g-3-tonne-professional-garage-j/path/trolley-jacks-bottle-jacks-transmission-jacks

a few of us have this and are happy, but more expensive though

Agree with JimBob. Get the 3 tonne one, much better. I've had mine for some time, it's had lots of abuse and still works well :y

It was mine too

unfortunately that just meant I added the price of that, to the cheap one I bought before it  :'(

Can you wait for them to do a VAT Free day, its how I bought mine.

If you dont get the invites....then order a catalogue off the website and you will be on the list, and will likely get a special offer not long after  :y

Have a look at www.argos.co.uk they have a 2 ton trolly for £25 and a set of axel stands with wheel chocks for £12.  just a thought as your in the same boat as the most of us. ( the no cash boat ) I have a 2 ton trolly and it works fine have had it for 8 years now so its seen plenty of action. With the stands always try and use stands, as a miggy ( or other car ) on the legs or head doesnt help much. always safty first.  :y

An omega is a heavy car and you should really use atleast a 2.5 ton ,better still 3.0 ton jack for peace of mind..axle stands again should be a good quality set.
Bear in mind it only needs to fail once..as said before "saftey first" and buy the best set of stands and jack you can afford.

would recommend spending in the upper end of your budget if possible, i had a 2 ton for 25 quid and it almost folded in half one day, more like a scissor jack than a trolley jack, i try not to think what could have happened. 2.5 minimum imho, i ended up with a sealey 3 ton quick lift for about 90 in the end, wanted 2.5 but could not find one locally within the time frame :y
