Omega General Help / Misfire code 0300
« on: 08 July 2021, 12:25:25 »
i have an annoying misfire on my 02 2.6 Hasn’t been used since I changed the timing belt etc a couple of months ago, it started fine after that and seemed to run ok.
I have checked and rechecked all of the connections which would have been disturbed during this job, all appear ok. I have also replaced the spark plugs on cylinders 2, 4, and 6, I did the other three not long ago.
When I start her up there is no misfire, a gentle increase of revs and still no misfire, allow her to drop back to idle and she ticks over nicely for a couple of seconds but the the misfire appears. A quick blip of the throttle up to 2000 rpm and the misfire is obvious.
I have done the pedal trick and the codes are 1650, 0650, 0460 and 0330.
Any ideas / suggestions?

So I finally managed to get the locking kit to fit! Everything looks fine, timing marks line up etc.

Remove the idlers and backing plate, belt off, check that the new backing plate is the same and start to reassemble. Then I notice that the separate idler is different, it does not have the large adjustment nut with directional arrow?

I fit it anyway, thinking that they may have just changed the design slightly. Everything appears to fit ok, timing marks on the belt line up, but the belt round sprockets 1 and 2 seems a bit slack?

Anyone come across this change to the separate idler?

It is a Conti kit, so not some cheap copy.

Omega General Help / Struggling to fit cam locking kit
« on: 21 May 2021, 08:53:37 »
Morning all.

I am in the process of replacing the timing belt on my 2.6, having borrowed a locking kit from a helpful OOF member.

I have got the engine stripped down and the cam cover off, rotated to tdc and the timing looks spot on, as expected because DLK did it. However I am struggling to fit the locking kit.

The crank locking tool which fits over the crank isn’t a good fit, it appears to be too tight, obviously I am not going to force it! I expected it to slide over, locating easily on the two flats.

The knurled bolt to hold it in place doesn’t line up with any of the threaded holes, it is about 2mm off.

Also one of the cam locking tools fits smoothly, cams 3 and 4, but there is no way the other is going in.

I have rotated the crank to tdc several times to check but still no joy.

I have done the job before but on an older 2.5 so I know what should happen, and I have studied the OOF dvd carefully.

Any ideas?

Anyone know if these kits are any good? £30 on a well known internet selling site.  :y

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wanted NCDC
« on: 09 May 2021, 23:45:12 »
I am aware it is a long shot but I am looking for a working NCDC and paired GID from a 2.6 to transplant into my 02 plate 2.6 Elite.

7
02 plate 2.6 Elite - body is good, looks really nice, engine is great, lovely to drive, but I don’t know what to do about the failing interior electric ‘toys’.

The driver’s heated seat stopped working years ago - I can live without it.

The CD unit has packed in, CD cartridge is stuck inside, the single slot will not read a CD. The radio still works and I have wired in a 3mm jack to connect a phone / mp3 device. Not the end of the world if you believe that CDs are becoming obsolete?

The real pain is that I have now lost the colour display screen in the dash!  :'( No clock, no consumption date, no radio channel data etc. I currently have a Tomtom covering the screen so at least I have a clock!

Any achievable suggestions to resolve these issues? What would you do? :-\

Omega General Help / Cam Locking Kit
« on: 04 May 2021, 20:15:24 »
Even if SWMBO makes me sell my Elite I am going to change the timing belt before she goes. To be honest the Boss has a point in that the Elite is surplus to requirements and doesn’t get used enough.
To replace the belt I need to borrow or hire a locking kit. Any members in The York / Leeds area with one that they would be willing to lend me? I would love to buy a Sealey kit as I am addicted to buying tools, but she would kill me!  :o
If I cannot manage to borrow one are they available to hire?
I plan to do the job sometime between 19 and 26 May.

Anyone used this website for parts? Prices for Ridex discs appear to be very low, anyone know if they are any good?

Omega General Help / Timing belt kit
« on: 03 May 2021, 11:04:22 »
02 plate 2.6 Elite is overdue for a timing belt etc. DLK did the last one, even though it has only covered 15K miles it was 6 years ago.  :-[
Any advice about the best kit to buy and which supplier to use would be appreciated.  :y
I did one years ago on a previous Omega but feel free to assume that I know nothing and include as much detail as possible regarding what needs replacing and what I need to buy.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Ncdc2013 screen
« on: 26 November 2018, 10:58:16 »
02 2.6 Elite. I think that it is NCDC2013!
Display is dying, lots of flashing, stripes etc. Have had it out and when I press the bottom left of the screen it is ok, loose connection? I cannot get it apart without unsoldering three spring earth clips? Is trying to source a replacement screen the best way forward?
These units are a pain! CD player stopped reading discs, now the disc cartridge will not eject, sat nav has packed in so no way to play a CD, I have put in a 3mm jack to connect an iPod. Now the display!!

Omega General Help / Dash display
« on: 16 May 2018, 07:28:53 »
The computer display on my 2.6 Elite has gone nuts! Randomly will start flashing, lots of colourful strips appear, sometimes it just goes grey. If I give the dash a thump it will sometimes return to normal - loose connection?
Strangely enough the display in my 55 plate Sorento does the same!

Any ideas / suggestions?

Omega General Help / Noise from rear. Diff? CV joints?
« on: 06 April 2017, 22:26:49 »
02 2.6 Elite with 83k on the clock.
Set off on a dry, flat road and heard a thump from rear near side wheel, thought that the wheel had maybe slipped on some leaves under the tyre. When I now take my foot off the gas there is a constant noise from the rear (I think). Sounds like a quiet pneumatic drill! Obviously related to road speed as it slows down as the car slows. Apply a small amount of throttle and the noise stops so I suspect drive train. Noise still there when I put it in neutral and blip the throttle.
Have had a quick look underneath, nothing obvious, the near side abs ring looks a little oily but no drips from an obvious oil leak.
Will investigate further tomorrow but if anyone has any bright ideas I would be grateful.

Omega General Help / Dead battery
« on: 06 December 2016, 19:10:59 »
Used the car on Thursday and apart from a misfire on pot 5 it was fine. Have not used it as I was going to sort misfire before using it again. The only other issue I have had is that the wire for the reversing lamps snapped where it is connected to the boot hinge.
This morning it was as dead as a dodo, wouldn't even open. Got it open tonight and yes, the battery was totally flat! Why? Nothing was left on and the battery is less than a year old, alternator is also new 3/4 years ago.🤔

Omega General Help / Replace NCDC 2013?
« on: 09 September 2016, 08:25:51 »
So the NCDC 2013 on my 02 Elite appears to have given up. The sat nav packed in a while ago, probably the laser, now the 4 disc cartridge won't eject or play a cd.
I realise that getting a working replacement will be very unlikely so what are my options?
I don't want to change the look of the car by ripping out the unit and putting in a modern replacement but I do want to be able to play cd's. I can live without the sat nav.
Any suggestions? 🤔
