Much better to get one of those long aluminium torches, with a wrist band so it stays attached to you. As we all know that you need the torch for emergencies, breakdowns etc.  ::) :y

Cem, sorry to hear about your problems, I have a glucose intolerance, which is a pre-cursor to diabetes and also a blood pressure problem, which I control through diet (very low salt) and exercise. Losing weight will make a big difference along with making sure you have a minimum of 6 hours sleep a night and ideally 8.

Eating high fibre wholegrain foods like brown bread, pasta and rice will help as they release their energy more slowly and keep peak blood sugar levels lower and they also keep you feeling full longer. If you are very hungry before a meal, eat some fruit like an apple about 10 minutes before you eat the main meal as you feel much fuller and eat much less. Stop eating when you are full, even if it means leaving food on your plate, use a smaller plate, so you eat smaller portions.

Finally, regular exercise makes a massif difference. I'm fortunate as I've always enjoyed cycling and was a member of a cycling club when I was younger, so going out on my bike or using my turbo trainer is an enjoyable past time rather than a chore.

I agree diabetes is a very serious illness with blindness and leg amputation being very common on those who do not take it seriously, but if blood sugar levels are kept under control then health prospects are good.

Finally if you smoke or family around you smoke inside, so you are a passive smoker, this is a major factor in developing type 2 diabetes, so give up and get your family to give up or smoke outside.

It is good to see such universal respect was shown today for those that made the ultimate sacrifice or had / have to live with damaged bodies and / or minds for the rest of their lives.

With current conflicts, this is still happening on a daily basis, so it is also a time to reflect and remember the pain and suffering of their loved ones, families and friends that they have left behind or are having to help them with their disabilities.

Sounds like I need to make a detour to Morrisons at Southwood the next time I go to B&Q and Wickes in Farnborough. Just to check out their special offers you understand  :-X

Vamps, glad you have kept your job and I'm sorry to hear about your colleagues. I would suggest that those that are having to reapply for their jobs, get their CV's out in the market and apply for other jobs, so they might get another job or some interviews lined up before the 23rd December. Even if they then hear the worst then they psychologically will have other irons in the fire, to cushion the blow and hopefully make the best of a bad situation at Christmas. Hopefully, some will find alternative employment, a better job and employer.

I've only an old copy of Tolley's Employment Handbook so this might be out of date.

If more than 20 people are being made redundant then there must be a consultation period with employee representatives. Are more than 20 being made redundant?

IMHO handing people envelopes instead of having a personal meeting is a cowardly way of handing things. To me, the very worst thing of being an employer in the past was making people redundant, having to get rid of very good people was hard, but the alternative would have been worse, bankruptcy and everybody losing their job.  :'( :'( :'( I always did this with a personal meeting and would explain why such a sad action was necessary and to personally thank them for all their hard work.

Duly signed  :y :y and the new one about leaving the EU started by the Express :y :y

It is a bit of a bugger that we have to tell MP's what concerns people. They are so far up their own arses , that they have no idea how people think, just self serving prats most of 'em >:(.

I had a letter back from my MP in October agreeing with my view that we should have a referendum on the EU. I contacted her again before the recent vote to remind her of this, and to hope that her integrity would not have been compromised by her recent appontment as a PPS. Guess which way she voted? (No prizes).

I have since had a two page letter from her in which she tries to convince herself me that there were good reasons for her volte face.

They all make me sick. >:( >:( >:(

The only party with a commitment to leaving the EU is UKIP all of the other parties are Europhiles with the Conservative party having a minority wing of Euroseptics.

From when Heath took us into the EU on the pretense on being part of a trading block with no loss of sovereignty, to today, where we are fed the lies that if the UK left the EU, we would all starve and die of the plague. I personally don't want to be part of an uncompetitive EUSSR build on the French Socialist model.  >:( >:( >:(

If we left the EU it is actually EU law that any member leaving has to be offered a free trade treaty, so we could be an EFA member like Switzerland and Noway, two of the richest countries in Europe without being in the EU. Independent Economists who have looked at this think financially and long term economically we would be better off out of the EU and to concentrate on trading with the US and BRIC countries. Global trading is something we have always been good at.  :y

The only party offering an alternative is UKIP but unfortunately they will struggle to get any MPs at the next election, but will probably do better in MEP elections. So you have a choice of two Europhile socialist parties with one being slightly more right-wing than the other and of course the Eurofanatics the monster raving Liberal unDemocratic party, but they will probably lose all of their MPs at the next election.

I see democracy has effectively been suspended in Greece where an EU puppet has been appointed as prime minister and the same is about to happen in Italy as the next Prime Minister there will be an un-elected ex-EU Commissioner, not that it will make a great deal of difference as most other EU governments (apart from France and Germany) are just regional councils there under the pretense of democracy to rubber stamp the EU diktats.  >:( >:( >:(

Berlusconi days have been numbered ever since he was walking behind Merkel at an EU summit and she overheard him saying about her "that he wouldn't want to penetrate a fat ass like that".  Cruel but true. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks guys!! :y

I know what you mean about them growing up fast, I've got a 16 yr old daughter & 13 yr old son, where did those years go? lol

Congratulations.  :y

I agree I've got a 23yo and 15mth old daughters plus 3 grand children 6yo, 2yo and 7mth. The older you get the faster the time seems to flyby. But I must admit, I appreciate my 15 month old daughter more than I did, when the 23yo was that age, and I think I'm a better dad for it.  :) :) :)

That's assuming their bosses weren't also being paid to look the other way.  ::)

The guards will probably just have to give their bosses or investigators a bonus and they will keep their jobs.  :o :o :o

That's how it normally works in poor corrupt countries.  :D :D :D :D

The raid was probably carried out as somebody wasn't getting the bunce they thought they should be getting.  ::)

Tesco Sandhurst is normally (on their own admission, in South Today interview) the most expensive Tesco in the UK for petrol where virtually all of the other local petrol stations have closed.  >:( >:( >:(

This is one of the reasons I generally use the Total garage just up the road from me, even though it is 1-2p a litre more expensive, plus the queues are shorter.

Opti, safety first, when working on HT electronics ALWAYS only use one hand, best to put the other in your pocket as a few kV, hand to hand via the heart is very bad news.  :'( :'( :'(

During my electronics apprenticeship I never had to touch HT equipment but a friend who worked in a TV shop said that was how they were taught to repair TV's, because of the dangers of charged HT capacitors.
